Im trying to come up with a list of soft, mellow sad songs... no bitterness or depression, just a sweet, gentle melancholy. Any ideas?
Fairport Convention - One sure thing Dead Can Dance - Song of the dispossessed Elend - Infernal beauty Fairport Convention - Autopsy
Nice one Paul... thats what Im thinking of.. soft acoustic stuff. Will have to checkout fairport convention as well. I was thinking melancholy man by the moody blues, leaves that are green by simon & garfunkel, Senorita with a Necklace of Tears by Paul Simon Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits
Some of the Iron and Wine stuff is pretty good. Like Naked As We Came and Cinder And Smoke. or there's My Ex-Lover Is Dead by Stars Anything by Antony and The Johnsons - Frankenstien and Forest Of Love are really prettily sad (or sadly pretty) Singing In My Soul by Fly My Pretties is gorgeous and mellow and sad but sweet too. Shouldn't I Know is fantastic as well, possibly my favourite song by them. The Dress Looks Nice On You by Surfjan Stevens is another good one. Not all of these are acoustic, but they are of the mellow, dreamy, variety.
You Can Close Your Eyes- James Taylor Isn't It A Pity- George Harrison Beware of Darkness- George Harrison Simple Twist of Fate- Bob Dylan Can't Find My Way Home- Delaney and Bonnie (live version w/ Eric Clapton and George Harrison) Amelia- Joni Mitchell Both Sides Now- Joni Mitchell America- Simon and Garfunkel After the Gold Rush- Neil Young Peace Like a River- Paul Simon The Dangling Conversation- Simon and Garfunkel Homeward Bound- Simon and Garfunkel Long Long Long- The Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps (anthology acoustic demo)- The Beatles Julia- The Beatles Ruby Tuesday- The Rolling Stones Alright for Now- Tom Petty Pale Blue Eyes- Velvet Underground Stephanie Says- Velvet Underground I'll Be Your Mirror- Velvet Underground Let It Grow- Eric Clapton Be Here Now- George Harrison Marwa Blues- George Harrison ~Layla
i strongly STRONGLY reccommend just about anything by God Speed You Black Emperor! especially dead flag blues and sad mafiaso (some parts can be a little eerie, but definitely sad and melodic, lots of instrumental)
Layla, you've got me pegged! The song I was looking for to epitomise what I mean is the Dangling Conversation... cant believe I forgot that one. Thanks y'all!
Poems by Tricky. Dreamed of ringing voices, And contemplated choices. Taste like a fresh kiss, To heighten my awareness. With all fairness, greatness, with gratitude. And simply rhymes with attitude Now do promotion and TV, and ya still can't see. Down the hill cascade And keep away the masquerade, Dreamed of ringing voices, And you promised me poems
Either Jeff Buckley or Rufus Wainwright playing "Hallelujah" Maybe there is a god above But all I ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew ya And it's not some cry you can hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah
