I am about to start a new run, and I am changing things up a bit. I am growing in a room that is 10.5x10.5. I am running a krusty set up. I am debating weather I should have 4 plants or 9. with the 9 It is pretty close, and will probably limit growth. With the 4 they have a nice amount of space and would be nice sized. Just not sure. Suggestions appreciated.

Don't know where you got the idea that 9plants in a 10x10 room is too many? There's a 5x5 room a couple feet from here with 31 plants(going for colas this time). The rule of thumb is 4sq ft per plant ergo 100/4=25 plants less what you use for isles and or storage/equip space. So say 20 plants under 2 - 1kw HPS lites.

How many plants per sq/ft is dependant on your style of growing and how long you intend to veg.
I plant from clones, at 1 plant per sq/ft. in an 4' x 4' ebb 'n flo tray under 2 430-watt full spectrum HPS. Veg to 15" tall (usually 3 weeks), then 12/12 'em. At 3 weeks of 12/12 I remove the lowest branches. They finish at 3' and I average 1.75 oz buds each.

I use vertical lighting, and ideally. Bare minimum is probably 9sqft per plant. however I could see it possible to get as much with less lighting using the 4 plants. Plus with that small of numbers it would be nice and chill. Pretty much just looking for some reassurance from an experience kbger.

well.. say you have a 400 watt HPS light and 4 plants, you would have 4 very very beautiful plants with a nice yield, but if you have 9 plants to 400 watts you would have 9 smaller plants.. lower yield. so it all equals out in the end, remember its the quality of the bud not the quantitiy.. you can have 4 nice plants that produce some top quality stuff.. think about baby carrots and baby potatoes. lol !

if I go 4 plants it will be 5800watts, if it is 9 it will be 7200 watts.

hig, you worry too much, growing mj should be a pleasant experience, where you're spreading joy and happy feelings to the plants. Don't worry about being perfect. mj will grow just fine. The thing is, why vertical lighting? never heard anyone support vertical lighting, I'm just curious?

I like vertical lighting because it gives me a much larger yield with less plants. When It comes to my grow room I am a perfectionest. Keep a constant perfent environment will make your plant happier. When they are happy I am happy.

How do you figure vertical lighting gives you "a much larger yield"?

Because the guitar sized nugs told me. 2 main reasons I would say. Number 1 would say because you don't lose any light. Using a reflector barley get 90 degree of the light. Now you can argue that the reflector reflects the light to produce more, but I don't buy that. Number 2 would be that when you hang the light vertically besides the plant it penetrates farther. Think about it. When the light is coming down on the plant it gets blocked by the leaves and can only go so far. When it is on the side of the plant it goes in between the leaves.

When you do this you don't really have the main cola on the top. In fact a lot of time the top nug is pretty small. Another good thing is that even the very bottom branches can produce and ounce or two. I remember when I first started growing wondering why you wouldn't put the bulb in between rather than on top but everybody always said I was crazy. Then when this internet thing came about and I read what other people where doing I tried it and never went back. I would suggest it to anyone.

I know the plants don't look great, but they just finished up in this room.

Sounds ok for a small limited space. (Phototron principle.) But given adequate space give me a 600W HPS anyday.
