What he is talking about is a baritone guitar. Some guitars that are labelled as baritone guitars are only tuned a Fifth lower (BEADGB), so make sure you thoroughly check the details of the guitar you are buying. There was an old guitar called the Fender VI, I believe, and it was pretty popular years ago, but they stopped making them. They were tuned a full octave lower than guitars. There are many other guitars like that around right now. Although, I don't understand why you would use it as a bass, since the only reason you would not tune with perfect fourths would be for playing open chords on all six strings. I can assure you, that will not sound good in the bass register. And I would discourage you from buying a six-string and tuning it to guitar tuning. Strings are made to be tuned to, and played at, certain pitches, and changing the tuning will definately not improve your sound. My advice: buy a normal guitar. Good luck, and keep playing!
Well, most six strings are tuned BEADGC. But back in the day, Fender had a bass called Bass VI (I think) that was tuned EADGBE. Danelectro also made one like that.
ya i played one in a guitar orchestra (many different kinds of guitars), it was acoustic and it was pretty big but it was tuned e-a-d-g-b-e
I already have a normal guitar. I just wanted to know if that kind of bass guitar exist so you can reach highter pitches as easily than on a guitar...
um yea tune it to what ever you want. if you tune a guitar to that you should use different gauge strings than tens. im sure you could tune a 6 string bass to that...
