"The House headed late Friday toward a vote to raise the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour by June 1, 2009, phased in over three years." Gee that means by 2012 at a little over 10 bucks an hour you can afford to rent a place of your own and move out of your parents house. I mean if rentals don't go up.
By 2012 nobody is gonna care about moving out of the rent's place. It'll be the end of the world as we know it!
Ha ha ha. Yeah. Yeah, this isn't gonna be a good thing. It seems nice on the surface, but it's gonna drive the price of everything up even more...and it'll be like you never got that extra two dollars.
Its whats happened a million times. Its why parents are always like "i remember when that cost 10 cents" and its like.. a lot more.
HS, you know the rent always goes up. They are doing this as a way to pacify voters before mid-term elections. Carl Rove has his little checklist......
i think they should just raise it a dollar and i think that'd work out just well it's why we're (NC) doin' it at the beginnin' of next year
its 90 cents to the dollar if you simply convert it. the cost of living is different in both places tho.
Well actually this is more than something like 6,975 US $ ... So that is still higher than your federal minimum wage ...
Sort of. With an increase on the price floor of the value of unpaid labour, you'll tend to see less full-time jobs and less benefits combined with more unemployment (rather than an a huge rise in inflation).
It won't pass. It was a Republican stunt. They passed the minimum wage bill as an election stunt because they knew it wouldn't pass the senate. The reason it wont pass the senate is because it's tied to legislation that would cut the estate tax, and that won't pass the senate. The republicans in the house made it look like they care, while getting the minimum wage issue tied to an issue they really want to get passed, but they know it won't. Getting rid of the estate tax.
