There is a small Albert Heijn at Nieuwmarkt and much larger Albert Heijn stores near Waterlooplein or by the palace at the Dam.

AH stores are pretty expensive tho...

...just ask somebody on the street who looks local (and cheep..), for a cheep supermarket.

the small AH stores are even more expensive....but they have chilled drinks and freshly baked sandwiches.

Only the 'to go' AH stores at stations and such are more expensive than others.

AH stores in areas like rembrandtsplein, marnixstraat or the jordan are much cheaper than the AH's near damsquare, in the RLD, or on Haarlemmerstraat from what I recall.

Sounds logical, tourists dont know the proper prices for things around here. But what i meant was that there (other than the ones around tourist areas, theyre exceptions) are only 2 kinds of AH's. The 'to go' ones, and the normal ones, which are a lot cheaper.

I don't believe that the prices are different (or very little difference) in any of the Albert Heijn's in Amsterdam not counting the store at CS or the other very small to go stores. But the AH stores do have the reputation of being one of the more expensive supermarkets.

By the way, myrtje I loved the chocolate you recommended in the pink wrapper, Verkade. It was SO creamy!! I bought it at Albert Hein and it was definitely alot cheaper than Puccini! lol I bought the big bar so it should last me awhile. Something I fell in LOVE with over there? Jules Destrooper Amandelbrood YUM!!! Best cookies I've ever had. Next time I go I'm buying 20 boxes to take home. I don't know though, the way things look today on the news and flying YIKES!

I ALWAYS have water, perfume, toothpaste all in my carry on so I'm not a pig when I get to my destination. This is going to totally suck *$@!#@* terrorists!!!! I guess I'm actually going to BE a pig next year so it'll work out lol :)

    Peace,

    point appreciated itsamagicallife.....
but i've payed different prices and myrtje seems to be quite aware of it as well so I must say you are mistaken.

for ex. large chocomel cost me nearly DOUBLE at the AH on haarlemerstraat than it did blocks away in the jordan at a small AH.

    koopa,
myrtje seems to say the same thing I said in this post. Her next post did give an exception to the ones in the Amsterdam tourist areas, but I don't think she lives in Amsterdam.
I've shopped at many different AH since moving to Amsterdam 9 years ago and I do keep an eye on the prices. I don't believe I'm mistaken on the price differences.

she doesn't live in amsterdam but what does that matter. She clearly states that ah to go stores are more expensive than ah stores. i never made any exceptions, so if there is a higher price in a tourist area.......it supports my opinion. some AH's are more money.....plain and simple. but since you live in amsterdam, go do some leg work :)

in all honesty, i have paid more for the same items (chocomel and others) at AH's in the damsquare / haarlemmerstraat / RLD. I'm being very specific about my claims. You can very easily check it out!

"she doesn't live in amsterdam but what does that matter."

She says she is 18 and doesn't live in Amsterdam, so how much experience can she have shopping at AH in Amsterdam?

"She clearly states that ah to go stores are more expensive than ah stores."

I posted "I don't believe that the prices are different (or very little difference) in any of the Albert Heijn's in Amsterdam not counting the store at CS or the other very small to go stores." How are our statements different enough for you to say "so I must say you are mistaken. "

"i never made any exceptions, so if there is a higher price in a tourist area.......it supports my opinion. "

Only at the AH To Go stores. These are not supermarkets, more of what's called a convenience store.

"some AH's are more money.....plain and simple. but since you live in amsterdam, go do some leg work :)"

    I have

"in all honesty, i have paid more for the same items (chocomel and others) at AH's in the damsquare / haarlemmerstraat / RLD. "

The closest AH to Dam Square is one of the largest AH in Amsterdam and I have shopped there many times and the prices are the same as the AH in the east of Amsterdam where I live.

"I'm being very specific about my claims."

    Show me your receits.

"You can very easily check it out! "

    I have.

Quit the whining already. Yes, im 18, and no i dont live in Amsterdam. But i happen to like the city and go shopping there at times, and besides i work all over the Randstad (catering, parties and stuff), many times in Amsterdam aswell. Really, you dont have time to get proper food when you work at parties, and on weird hours, so i usually buy my food at AH whenever im at work. When i shop for clothes and all i do get to the tourist areas, and then i usually buy drinks and such at AH in that area. Is that enough explaining about my experiences with AH in Amsterdam for you?

LMAO! I so agree with you on that point. Gotta have the big one ;) I got the cookies at AH. They have them at all of them cuz I only went to the small ones, even they had them. And I noticed stuff the small ones didn't have that the big ones did when I was there last time. LOL here we go talking about big ones again SHEESH glad people will know what we're really talking about after reading the posts :p

yeah seriously quit the whining itsamagicallife....

You are borderline being an arse to me and DEFINATELY being an arse to Myrtje itsamagical life. Which is funny considering you say "i'm taking the same stance as her".

yes you are taking a similar stance to myrtjes.....SO WHAT. your only stance in this entire thread has been that I am wrong when i say some AH's are more expensive than others.

If you notice, I posted my comment after she mentioned AH to go's, I never acknowledged her statement about "to go's" when I made my post. I merely stated that some AH's in certain areas are more pricey. If they happen to be the "to go" ones then so be it. You tried to rope me into Myrtje's statement and then told me I was wrong because myrtje named the "exceptions" to my statement already..... Hate to break it to you but myrtje saying the "to go" ones are more expensive does not cancel out the validity of my statement.

Why don't we reserve such debates for significant topics or significant counterpoints?

Its just not worth the time or energy carrying on with such a petty disagreement.

I want to say that the prices at the AH's over town can differiate. Those at the touristical places are more expensive, even if it aren't to go stores. I know this from experience and from well informed sources within the supermarket bussiness. Best bet are the shops, just outside the larger tourist spots. Especially the one behind the Dan Square asks ludicrious prices.
And Koopa, did you go to the AH on the Westerstraat.
i want to say, I don't encourage anyone to go there, just go over to the other side of the street to the Super de Boer, the AH there is gewtting worse every time, not stocked properly.
But for fruits and vegetables go to a market, don't buy it in a supermarket.

and before the whinig starts, i am 19 and I don't live in Amsterdam. i do however study there and work there, I also have a friend who owns a Supermarket there and who hears stuff about other supermarkets and plans. Hell, I knew about the price war, 2 or 3 monthes before it happened.
