Anyone read this? I loved Doors of Perception and am tempted to order up The Psychedelic Experience. I'm sure from a literary standpoint Leary falls short of Huxley in every way but is it still worth the read?
god i need to start reading.. im sure itd be good dont listen to me i have no idea. but i need to read so many books thanks for reminding me.
"The Psychedelic Experience" is good. It is heavily influenced by the "Tibetan Book of the Dead" and spends a lot of time relating to it. "The Doors of Perception" is more general in its approach so if are not that interested in Tibetan Buddhism, "The Psychedelic Experience" may not like it as much. The two books have rather different approaches to the subject.
for a quality read: alan watts ===> the joyous cosmology (it's avalable online, but the B&W photos in the book are just wonderful - well worth the search imho...) & for ummmm "trip guides" well, tim's _psychedelic prayers_ is pretty nice... (tao te ching-based) & ram dass (dick alpert) book BE HERE NOW classic trip guide stuff...
While on the subject of Timothy Leary, I have an audio session recorded by him (in 1967 ...ish?) as a trip guide for some guy named Ralph. The first and last tracks are just long sitar songs. It was released in the late 1980s by some firefly of a label. The title of it is "Turn on, Tune in, and Drop out" in case you're interested in looking for it.
read this book and i didnt agree with it but i havent tripped yet. from what i hear...its because this book was written long a go...a time where most people had morals for tripping (not diss'n anyone without morals or saying you dont have them) and they were so detailed with it...nowadays people are like eyah this goes and this doesnt...you cant have a bad trip or you can...you cant crack your back or you die (which i believe is a lie) its all about how you understand the message.
i tohught i would feel better and like i knew what was going to happen after.,..but i think acid is different than what it was in thepast...but what do i know? noth'n
