I found out recently that I live in the county that the author of the novel James Dickey had the experience from which he based "Deliverance". Freaky. But, it doesn't surprise me. This place is REDNECK CENTRAL. "He's shure gotta reel purty mouf, ain't he?"
Come on piggy, give me a ride...Looks like we got us a sow here, instead of a boar....I bet you can squeal like a pig. Made me nauseous.
Anybody ever seen Ruthless People?? When Danny Devito's character goes to jail, some guy in there says to him, "you sure got a pretty mouth". I never knew that was a line from another movie, even though I saw Deliverance back in 1989.
wow, this is actually based on a actual event? has there been a trial? this probably messed this person up for good.
Yes, it was "based" on an actual event, but there was no murder or rape. It was a group of men who got lost in the woods and ran up on a still. They told the old man and his "boy" (with guns) that they were waiting for the other two to come down in their canoes. The old man told the boy to hold them until the others came and got them, but if they didn't come within the time period specified to kill them. They came and the group left intact. So, yes it was an exaggeration of an actual story.
To me, the issue of the movie has always been the violent clash with nature meeting "civilization". I also remember thinking, last time I saw it some years ago, that after the first assault it is mostly paranoia in their heads. From there on, are there any clearcut signs that they are indeed being hunted?
