i've been on the depo shot for about 2 months (don't plan on staying on it when this is over) and for the past week and some i've been heavily spotting yes i was told i would spot on occasion but this has beenn for quite awhile and it is starting to get annoying i either have to wear a light tampon or change panty liners every hour or so. is anyone else having or had this problem?

I never tried depo, partly because I knew a couple of people who bled for 3 months straight due to that stuff.

I don't think there's much to do about it except wait until it's out of your system. And, talk to your doctor about other bc options.

Its one of the risks with depo, its listed on -many- sites and their own info packet (well, the one iread back when i was on it had it listed). Remember that the potential sideaffects listed arent there just because, that they really do happen to some people... i fyou cant handle the possible sideaffects of something then dont take it!

I've been on depo for years and love it. However, when starting it after being off of it the last time for a couple of years, I bled (spotting for weeks). After that I would only bleed (again, spotting) right before my shot was due. Often I got months with nothing.

When I started it at a point even earlier than above, I was annoyed at the bleeding that went on for over a month and the doctor gave me some estrogen and that made it stop. This last time I didn't bother with it and just waited it out.

I don't think it is the BEST choice for teenage girls. Any reason you didn't go with the pill?

Yeah, that shot has more cons than pros. Good choice not going back on it after this.
I'd go talk to your doc :)

    Where is "here"?

Have you asked whether they offer other forms of bc for free? They might only advertise depo for free, since you only have to remember it once every 3 months, but might still offer other types of bc for free (even if only to people who have problems with depo).

I'm glad that you are being responsible about birth control despite the difficulties your mother is causing. I was dumb at your age and didn't always use something.

Finally, when I was 18 I could go to the county clinic and get on the pill. (You had to be 18 or with a parent.)

A -portion- is paid for in Canada, not all of it. when I was on depo, it was $7/month with my university health plan, $30 without any additional plan.

actually, if you're under 18, it's paid for, mine always were.
It's once you're over 18, then you have to pay extra or all.
This is also with the alberta health care plan...I don't know which province you were in.

Here, in Kentucky, anyone (Under 21) still living in a parental home and has no income can get all birth control paid for aside from an IUD....that's what my nurse at the HD told me.
If you don't like the bleeding, maybe ask about the pill or something that'd be more convenient.
I was going to go on the provera shot, but after much persuasion from the mamas here, I've decided against it. I know people that it work for, but I just have a feeling it wouldn't be as good for me.

I was on that crap for I guess about a year. It made me faint every time I went in for a shot and it made me gain over 40lbs which I was eventually able to take off, but still. I never had a period at all on it, which at the time (I was 17) I thought was wonderful. Now, I would never go without my period. I know 4 women personally who got pregnant while on depo... be warned.
