I have blond caucasian hair that is very thick and i also have really bad ezcema/dermititus on my scalp which is kept at bay trough the use of a medical shampoo with smells funky is a kind of green sludge also the rolling the hair while pressing on your scalp thing is not a option it would probably make my scalp bleed in most places and be unbareably itchy. ill say what questions i have in a list form cos iam better at that then this 1.best way to get dreads for people with sensitive scalps 2.best way to control ezcema on scalp without using something that weakens dreads 3.how long would it take for the method in question to give me presentable dreads (i realise this kind of thing does not happen overnight) soz about the title of thread but it wont let me edit it.
yes but i dont really mind if their not perfect just how long would it take so people would actully know there dreads and it doesnt look just like knotted messy hair.
have you tried not using commercial shampoo? I would suggest you get your scalp healthy first, before attempting dreads. read this thread here about deep cleaning without using harsh chemicals. Dreadlocks sometimes hurt, and if your scalp is already damaged, it may be too much for you to handle. Once you have that under control, then you can think about starting some dreadlocks, either by backcombing (which is really quite painful and doesn't really work so well on silky hair), twist-n-rip, or just stop combing and brushing altogether. How long it takes just depends on your hair. Most people say to give it at least a year and a half or two years.
well i actully cant remember the last time i combed brushed my hair (probably a tad over 5 years) and my hair is like flat and isnt knotted at all, but thats robably because of washing it with this shampoo which has conditioner in it. i have tried backcombing previously but i cant find anyone that can do it properly (mum tried and it just ended up with puffy balls because she does it to fast..) also iam willing to handle the pain of backcombing and my scalp gettig sore i just dont want to cause it any unesscery pain thats why i dont want to do the palm rolling thing if there is a easier way. how exactly is backcombing meant to work anyway because i thought it was just u helping them to lock up and speeding up the process but u say it could slow down the process because eventully they unlock. another question i have is what is a good length for hair to start dreading them my hair quite short like longest bits are about 6 inch and shortest are like 3 cos they got cut (dont ask )
