I have heard it is possible to do this but I don't know how. Could anyone give me advice on how I could do this or would it be wiser to just get a region free DVD player?

This isn't for my computer but a regular region 1 DVD player. I know this thread is for computers but I wasn't sure where else this would fit.

you can also get dirt cheap dvd players that play anything by holding the stop button down when you turn it on.you can mess up the dvd drive if you upload the wrong firmware, apparently n I thought it only let you change the region a few times

Then it'd be easier to get a region free DVD player.
