Record temperatures in July 2006 recorded throughout the world: France:temperature of 97 degrees fahrenheit recorded in main square at Antibes,Southern France.64 currently dead from heat stroke.France put on 'Orange Alert'. Spain records: 104 degrees fahrenheit. Poland records hottest July for 200 years. British record temperature on Wednesday 19th July of:36.5c 97.7f. Rivers drying up.The grass in Hyde Park London:scorched. Record heat in Los Angeles:Tuesday 18th July:Fresno reached all-time high 44 degrees celsius :112 degrees fahrenheit. The Los Angeles power grid is at breaking point. Sunday July 16: 38 degrees celsius: 100 degrees fahrenheit recorded at St Paul - Minnesota. Now please don't tell me that this has nothing to do with: Global Warming. -Because I'm too hot to argue!. "Auuuughhhhh...........lemme get in the Refridgerator!!!".........
I have no doubt global warming has been happening, there are a number of signs up here in the arctic and sub-arctic regions, as well as the record high temps all over that you posted. That being said why did we (AK) just have the coldest winter in thirty years and a July way, way below average temp. Am I seeing signs of a reversal of global warming this far north or was the last year a fluke?
Hi Alaska, Interesting that the reverse is happening further north. The polar ice caps are slowly melting because the sea temperatures are rising.
Yeah the polar ice caps and glaciers have been melting up here. Until this last winter we had been having mild winters compared to even 10 years ago. Mild up here is 20 below instead of 40 below. Last winter has gotten our hopes up (possibly falsely) that things could be swinging the other way. With our lack of summer this year we are wondering if the trend will continue. We had below freezing temps every night until the first week of june with snow on the ground June 5th.
Do I believe global warming is happening? Yes. Is blaming a heat wave on global warming making a pretty big assumption? Yes.
i dunno, usually keep escapin from the country ..thought it was crazy when i saw 106 on the screens at 10 in the evenin last week and next day at 1300, it went upto 124 ! i think its we, humans that are to be blamed. nevermind the harpin about global warmin/dimmin etc
I concede that heat waves such as this one are not a "new thing". As I recall, July 1980 was worse...every day was over 100, 12 days in a row over 110 (where I was at the time) and Dallas had 69 days in a row over 100 that summer. I remember other years at least as bad as this one ....1976 was terrible in terms of lives lost, and 1995 was no "cupcake" either. (especially in Chicago) I think we would agree that there is more to it... Global Warming (relevant to us) has been "in play" in some degree or another since the Industrial Revolution....it's effects are just being noticed more now as it gains momentum and gets closer to the point of no return. I believe that people are just more aware of it now, because "global warming" finally is an everyday phrase. There was so much denial for so long. Maybe now, the world will have consensus that a response is needed, despite the interests of "Big Oil" and the Republican party.
Yes, the earth's temp is rising, and it is attributed correctly and directly to the human race's lifestyle choices. Heat Causes Pileup of Livestock Carcasses by: OLIVIA MUNOZ 27 July 2006 Record-Setting Heat Wave Causes a Pileup of Livestock Carcasses FRESNO, Calif. - The state's record-setting heat wave has killed thousands of dairy cows and other livestock, leaving farmers with piles of carcasses and creating a backup at factories that turn the dead animals into pet food. A combination of sweltering temperatures, growth in the state's dominant $5 billion dairy industry and fewer plants to properly dispose of the animals have forced several counties to declare a state of emergency. The declarations allow dead livestock to be dumped in landfills something usually outlawed because of health risks. "But what can we do? We have to weigh the possible contamination to ground water versus piles of dead cows stinking and attracting flies," said Phil Larson, chairman of the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. The heat wave, with 10 straight days of 100-degree temperatures, brought the threat of more rolling blackouts and raised the number of suspected heat-related deaths to at least 56. Cooler weather was not expected until Wednesday. Fresno County, which reached 113 degrees in recent days, was one of the first to declare an emergency when a plant that handles the bulk of the region's dead animals broke down earlier this month. After the old carcasses began decomposing in the searing summer heat, county officials were forced to make the declaration the first in the county's history, Larson said. "It wasn't any easy solution," he said. "It's not something we want to continue but we can't have piles of dead animals laying around." Dairy farmer Brian Pacheco said he sometimes waits days before a rendering plant will pick up his dead cows. "And when they do come, they only take the ones that died that day," said Pacheco. "I'm left with the old bodies." Pacheco has spent thousands of dollars to build shade structures and install misters and fans in his barns to keep his cows cool, measures that have yielded higher milk production and fewer lost cattle than other area farmers. But he said he still sees 15-20 cows die each year from the heat, and this year it could be more. San Joaquin County, which also has declared an emergency, estimated that its dairy farms were losing a total of 120 cows per day from the heat. Individual dairy farmers could lose about 2 percent of their herd this year, according to industry experts. Hundreds of thousands of chickens and turkeys also have died. The state Environmental Protection Agency issued guidelines earlier this month for farmers stuck with dead livestock. Farmers can have them hauled to a landfill by licensed handlers or compost their animals on their property by burying them in manure, which is common in other states. Usually, farmers in California take their dead animals to rendering plants, but many have closed amid odor complaints from growing communities nearby, accusations by environmentalists and lawsuits stemming from improper disposal.
I remember the drought summer of 1976.I also remember the summers of 1980 & 1995.I tell you nothing compares to the July we just had. The Electricity generator grids in London & Los Angeles being unable to cope with the power-surge for 'air conditioning'.The Piccadilly Circus light displays were blacked out. The parks in London are no longer carpeted with green grass: - it is all yellow hay.It is quite shocking to look at.I have never seen that before.Green trees & yellow dead grass.
um yeah i guess its been really hot this july but maybe i have got used to the sun or something cause this year i did not really feel that hot compared to the past yeah global warming is a problem
i guess the only way to get the idiot out of control is to not vote for the idiot. when people realise this one crucial point its the day that pollution no longer becomes something we can't deal with.
