I took my daughter to the doctor's today because she had a fever and white bumps in the back of her throat, and they told me it was Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. I know I saw a thread about it somewhere on here but I looked and couldn't find it. They said they couldn't give her antibiotics or anything, to let it run its course (5-7 days) and to call them if she wasn't eating. Her doctor said I could get it, and to not kiss her on the mouth or anything, but it wasn't serious. I came home and looked it up online and it said that it won't affect the baby while I'm pregnant, but if I contract it and go into labor, then the baby could catch it. I'm only about 3 weeks away from my due date and I'm getting a little nervous. My daughter was 11 days late, so I'm hoping this baby will wait until after it's gone if I do get it, but what do I do if I get it and she comes early???? I'm a little nervous....

Don't worry; it really is a pretty harmless illness. My son and i had it a couple of years ago (he was 2); he had a mysterious fever for about two days, and no other symptoms. Two days after that, i got these weird red bumps on my hands and feet, but no other symptoms. i went to the doc, and he too told me that it wasn't serious, and all i could do was treat the symptoms if they were troublesome (they really weren't, i'd just never seen a rash like that and had no idea what it was). If you don't see any symptoms within a few days, i wouldn't even expect to get it.
