well, david draiman, of the band, disturbed, has recently this week...... he has made remarks about the israeli/lebanese conflict in the middle east. he has stated that he thinks all terrorists should be captured and put on an island, and to have that island nuked...... he agrees with the way israel and the US is handling this situation, and thinks force is necessary to get rid of the hezbollah........he has sympathy for the isrealis, I think probably because he has friends and family there......

still, alot of his remarks makes mel gibson just look like a drunk anti-semite...

I wish they would just worry about making music, instead of getting involved in politics.....

that whole conflict anyways is just ridiculous...... I dont agree with either side. they are all using force....... and there is so much propaganda on both sides.

They have rights to opinions, just we all have to hear theres since they are famous.

I think Isreal should have done this years ago, this shit has been going on for years and I think they got tired of the crap. I just hope thye continue as they are and not do what we do by giving a crap about who we hurt in a war. If you drag it out you kill far more, if you get in there, do it and finish it, less will get hurt. None of this police action shit, war till there is a surrender, take the country over and make sure no one there does it again. Isreali actions in the past have been far better than the US and assisted them in stopping alot of terrorist activity they used to have. Isreal had the worst record for hijacked airlines and terrorist attakcs against them, with changes in policy they no longer have the problems that plagued them in their airlines. I wish we had that policy and backed it.

The US isn't really handling anything here.

In general, I support Israels right to defend itself, but theres no way for Israel to win this. Hezbollah is buried so deeply in Lebanon and has connections so deep in Iran and Syria that it would take a horrific large scale Middle East war to even try to get them out.

It wouldn't even work then. It would just lead to even more civilian deaths. I don't see either side as being right. Just two people who are engaged in decades of war, both sides think they are fighting for survival, and it doesn't have to be that way. My only support goes to finding a resolution to help the Lebanese and Israeli people.

As for celebrities, there of course free to have their opinions in international issues. I just don't think I should be subjected to ignroant opinions on the ground that someones famous.

If a celebrity has something more in depth to say, I would love to hear it. For the most part, celebrities aren't a very deep group. It requires being concerned with things other then yourself.

oh man, do you actually think that isreal has a right to what they're doing?
    israel is the problem...man...i'm shocked...:&

i think that musicans/actors/famous people in general have a right, and to an extent an obligation to voice opinions about political/environmental/social/etc issues that face this world
whether or not everyone agrees with them, they should be informed and they should help inform other people...being famous put them in a position to get messages across
mind you alot of celebrities aren't informed..and they're not doing a very good job at getting more people informed

"that whole conflict anyways is just ridiculous...... I dont agree with either side. they are all using force....... and there is so much propaganda on both sides."
i do kinda agree with this though
making an informed decision about the tiopic is extremely hard because there is so much corruption in the media and the public is being misinformed

well everyone is "envolved in politics" whether they want to be or not. sometimes, freequently, i wish that didn't have to be.

israel appears to be engauged in moraly unconscionable activity. america has been for a very long time as a matter of policy as well.

no nation has a moral right to treat anyone within its borders any differently then anyone else on the basis of belief, idiology or anything other then their own individual behaviour, nor to close their borders to any unarmed, otherwise law abiding civilian, wishing to cross them at any time in any direction for any reason.

when i was in school 50 years ago i was taught that a nation with closed borders was tyrannical. today america is one. as, fallowing it's example, are nearly all nations.

israel is the same age as i am. we were born the same year. but the people who started israel are nearly all dead now, and the people who are running it today, i don't think they would be proud of.

if israel wants to move its border northward to protect the golan hights then it should establish that border and be done with it. not targeting civilian populations and destroying infrastructre further north then they intend to claim.

or perhapse instead abondon golan. but either way, palastinian citizens of israel, and isreal should treat them as citizens, should be allowed to seat hesbola, p.l.o., or any other party they care to come up with, in a knesset that truely represents everyone living within israel's borders.

just as in america we should be allowed to have extreme left parties with just as level a playing field as the extreme right that is dictating the tyranny we have here now.

that or a truely democratic electorial system such as would not require political parties at all.

If they want to use their popularity to further a cause, that's their business. Personally, I am also annoyed by musicians who go around preaching their ideas to everyone, as if anyone cares just because they're famous. Most of them have no ide what they're talking about, and do nothing to make things any better. If they're asked about it by the press, I've got no problem with their answering truthfully. But when you get famous for good music (questionable for most bands these day), I hate to see people compromise their music for the sake of pushing some agenda. Music's about the music, not about using whatever lyrics you can to convey a political statement, even if they're totally redundant, throwing some chords and a back beat on it and calling it a song. It's pathetic.
