i love the sound of psychedlic or prog rock with sitar as one of the instruments.i find it hard to find, and good suggestions for bands or songs using sitar?
Well, it may not be any progressive rock, but The Beatles' "Norweigan Wood", haha. It's still a good fucking tune.
The Beatles' 'Love You To' from the album Revolver is a great example of a psychedelic song with sitar. But yeah I don't think there are many contemporary psychedelic or prog rock bands that incorporate sitar into their music
Traffic used sitar("hole in my shoe"). and then of course as mentioned above, the beatles and the rolling stones("paint it black") beatles also used the tambura a lot(sgt pepper's).
Have you heard of the Brian Jonestown Massacre? Theres a few songs of theirs that use a sitar. You can download all their albums for free on their website.
Within you and with out you is a great song by "the beatles"... But it gets old fast.. Like lather said there arent really no modern bands that use the sitar often or ever... You can do a search on You Tube to find some good videos of sitar players, I know there is one video that uses rock music and the sitar in the music on youtube...
cant belive no ones said this already! les claypools solo band has a a sitar, and yes les's band kicks ass... if u cant find their live stuff, they have an album out called "of whales and woes", although i heard its only so-so.. blueroom.att.com has a bonnaroo link that lets u see 3 videos from his band at bonnaroo (off subject, but u can also see oysterhead, and les is in that band also)
It's strange.... i mean...the sitar is a cliché of the psychedelic old sound....but...hey except the cliché beatles...i can't remember sitar in other old psych bands...!!! ...The vision of sitar in psychcock :H is maybe more cliché than reality... But as a bones collector ...no i mean stoned collector & psych pop rock collector i've heard probably 50 good songs with sitar inside... but oh mystic memories ...can you make disappear this hole in the center of my mind... oh god it's maybe one of those damned day :H ...
