    Hi all,

I`m in a bit of a predicament at the moment, I work in a low paid ICT job and when I started I had high hopes of moving up the ladder quite quickly. Over the past few months my employer employed a IT manager over my head without my knowledge, this guy has no formal IT qualifications and enjoys making sarcastic comments (mostly about me). Recently I have become extremely unhappy with work, and cant seem to be able to move myself up the ladder at all even after 2 years of trying to looking for other work. I have expressed an interest at work for extra training and not only in IT, I also wanted to get involved with teaching as well (as I work in a school) but, these things have never materialised. Just to cap all that off, I`m not making enough money per month to cover all my expenses so i`m slowly sinking into debt which i`m VERY worried about.

I have seriously considered changing career, and have looked at becoming an electrician which is something I could do as I have work with electrical cabling before in IT, however problem is you need money to get qualified as a sparky which is what I dont have. I`m getting really frustrated by it as I cant seem to do anything about it. Can anyone offer me any advice?

You posted a career issue in the higher education forum... Are you looking for someone to tell you to go back to school for a higher degree?
