I had another son leave yesterday for basic training in Fort Sill,OK. I was very surprised when he told me that he signed up....he was always against any military. Well luckily the Army didn't approve of his tattoo....a few yrs ago, he got a small "666" on the back of his neck.
i know a female who wanted to join the marines at school, but she had a tattoo on her neck. she had it removed to enlist... it was a pretty sweet tattoo, not something i would do to enlist - fuck that
Does your son have other means of attaining any goals like major training or college without military service? If not, I think you should be more supportive. Unless of course you plan on footing his secondary education bills.
My son will be 21 in October...which means that he is an adult....which means that he pays for his own stuff. If he wants to be a police officer that bad he could have gone thru the police academy....but just found out that the Army told him to get tattoo removed within the next 3 weeks and he can go back.
Children are considered financial dependants, for school purposes, until the age of 23. Furthermore, whether he's 21 or not if you would've provided him with better options perhaps he would not have to enlist in the army.
Are you serious? Also, no one said he HAD to enlist, it was his choice. Not to be all for the military, which I'm not, but the choices that he makes doesn't mean that he didn't have 'better options'.
Granted I made the assumption that he didn't, but it was based on the lack of an answer to the question, "Does he have another means for getting the training he needs or going to college?". If the answer had been yes, it's less likely that the question would've been avoided. Not to mention it's obvious that she either can't provide, or has no intent to provide a necessary means for him to obtain what the military can provide by her smart ass remark regarding her sons age.
thought pell grants were invented for paying for college~maybe you want to pay for all 7 of my kids to go to college, but I can't afford to send myself to college right now....sorry but if I don't answer u right away it's probably cuz I'm off doing other things seeing as I don't live at hipforums so much lately.
You responded to the post avoiding the question. It's not that you jsut didn't respond. Pell Grants rarely cover even half of a persons tuition at a typical 4 year university. I thought parents were supposed to read up on this and be prepared for it long before their children turn 21
This started out being about the Army refusing to let you in basic training with a visible tattoo....how did it turn into a debate on college tuition? Is there an actual law saying parents HAVE to pay for an adult childs education? Oh gee, better have me arrested then....7 times. Have you ever gotten a pell grant? They may not pay for Harvard, but they do pay for cheaper schools....and yes I have gotten 1 about 21 yrs ago.
No law for it, but those who don't shouldn't bitch about their childrens choices. And yes. I have recieved a pell grant. 4 years ago, and 3 years ago. So my awareness of their uses and just how far they'll go is far more updated than yours would be.
