Lieberman trails with 81 percent of vote tallied In Tuesday's primary, Connecticut Democrat in jeopardy due to Iraq war By Tom Curry National affairs writer MSNBC Tom Curry National affairs writer HARTFORD, Conn. - Three-term Sen. Joseph Lieberman was trailing his anti-war opponent in Connecticut's Democratic primary on Tuesday. With 89 percent of precincts counted, challenger Ned Lamont led with 52 percent, or 127,786 votes, to Lieberman’s 48 percent, or 119,867 votes, according to the Associated Press. The polls closed at 8 p.m. ET, and voter turnout was projected to be nearly twice normal for a primary. The primary has largely been about Lieberman's support of the Iraq war, a position that has tried the patience of many of his fellow Democrats. Lieberman pretty much rubber stamped every bill introduced by the Bush-Master and his extreme right-wing cronies Now he's out on his ass Hotwater
Lieberman wasn't much of a Democrat, so I guess that this is a good move for the Democratic party. I myself dislike that party, together with the other dominant party.
If I lived in Connecticut I would not support Lamont at all. He bought his way onto the ticket. Moreover, I haven't heard him differ his position at all from Liberman, other then the war. Granted that position is important to the democrats, but do they value that over somone with no political experience? Maybe Lamont would be good, I dunno.
Spence, You're right. I agree with you 100%. Lamont is just a puppet and he's claiming he will lead the charge in bringing the troops home. All I hear is hot air and rhetoric. He doesn't have the clout/respect to even begin thinking he's capable of doing it. Lamont is just a rich boy who truly doesn't have Connecticut's interests in mind. Despite his view on the war, Lieberman has done a lot of good for the state (which everyone seems to overlook). As a person from CT, I do NOT want Lamont representing my state. The last time I had a really bad feeling about a specific polititian, Bush was running for President the first time. I am getting the same sense with Lamont. I am voting for Lieberman under the independent ticket. I don't care how much that ruffles the Democrat's feathers.
Lieberman is a total neocon. He is a Bushite Republican posing as a Democrat. Him and Bush are bosom buddies. Here's video of Bush kissing Lieberman. In private they're probably blowing each other: http://www.wonkette.com/politics/funny-pictures/bush-kissing-lieberman-video-032091.php This is not the first time Bush has been caught kissing Lieberman and other men, as well as groping them as if he enjoys it. Remember the Jeff Gannon incident? Jeff Gannon, the gay internet call boy with unrestrained access to the White House, which logs report him coming (or is that cuming) and going at all hours of the night.... LOL!
And his kissing Bush has everything to do with what? So I don't agree with Lieberman on one issue. Big whoop. He has brought a lot of jobs to Connecticut and helped save the Groton Sub base. It is a huge economic pull in Connecticut; not to mention job maker. He's BEEN doing a good job. People who judge him based on his position/affiliation with Bush don't see the other sides and are one-dimensional. He's changing his tune, it took a bit of a shake up to get it to happen. But it did.
Well, for one, it shows that him and Bush are two peas in a pod. Doesn't that concern you that they're buddies and pretty much the same in many ways, especially regarding Israel and foreign policy? Don't get me wrong, the guy who won is no better, but still....
Pressed Rat, After the Gannon fiasco became headlines Chimp began spending more time at his ranch in Crawford, where gannon does not have to log in to visit him. It's a literal brokeback mountain scene in texas. Cindy Sheehan makes a piont to protest there every time he is on vacation, which is quite often.
Shambhala Peace, No but I spend so much time driving down I-84 from Massachusetts to New York one might think I'm from Connecticut I just follow politics in general and Lieberman in clearly in the Rove/Bush/Cheney camp. It's good to see that power hungry fool out on his ass. Hotwater
I'm from Connecticut and I was counting working primary night compiling the votes and really, i didn't like eather of them. Lieberman started changing his politics a few days before the election, when he realized that cooperating with Bush all the time had gotten him thrown out of connecticuts good graces, despite what he may have done in the past. I really don't like eather of them very much, but we'll have to wait and see what Lamont does.
Lieberman's got his demons, yes. But I think he's the lesser of the two evils. Lamont has got NOTHING when it comes to the senate. He's just a puppet! They are all gonna pat him on the head and tell him "there, there" and he's not going to get anything done. I just see him making a whole bunch of promises that he's not gonna be able to keep, and am being realistic about it. I honestly think Lieberman is scared into doing what's best for the country. Is that scuzzy that he changed a few days before the election? Of course. Is he a politician? Yes. Is that natural for them? Duh. Just because he lost, doesn't mean he isn't down for the count. We shall have to see how this all plays out in the end.
I'm happy to see Lieberman gone, as it sends a STRONG message to all the politicians that their jobs are in jeopardy if they support war, ANY war, and Bush too. The Repugnantcrats claims the defeat will affect the Dems, but in reality it's far more of a reality check for the Repugnantcrats, as they will be thrown out even worse! Has anyone tracked the decline of the republican party in numbers over the past 6 years? I believe for many being a republican is now considered "repugnant", no?
Lamont is just as much a shill as Lieberman ever was. All he is doing is paying lip service, nothing more: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187958
