Do you perfer to listen to one song at a time (like download the song and listen to that one song, or just one song on the album) or the whole album from start to finish. Opinions?
Unfortunately, this is true. I"ll totally dl a couple of songs before buying the album now. I hate to waste money on a cd that I won't listen to.
Well, I do it all the time and will sadly continue doing so until there are better legal downloads available of the music which I am into. I buy a lot of record label compilations/samplers so sometimes you will buy the disc just for the one or two tunes off it you want. Sucks I know but you're supporting the labels releasing the music you love. Though this isn't always the case as if I just want one track I might burn a cheeky copy of a mate's original. The psychedelic trance scene is in the shit right now because people are (illegaly) downloading much more music than they are buying and this is causing smaller labels to go out of business and offers artists less incentive to carry on creating music when everyone has a copy of their song but no-one bought it. Support the people creating your music. Mp3 is such a disposable format anyway, there's not the same magic in downloading something of shit sound quality (you can always tell when it's mp3 on a decent system) as having the whole packaging and cool artwork and decent sound. For me it just doesn't compare. To the original question though, it depends. Some albums are like a journey and have been crafted as such so they don't always make sense when listened to as individual songs. As a DJ though part of the thing is constantly mixing it up with different tracks from different artists otherwise you may as well not have a DJ.
Ideally, I prefer to listen to an album straight through, but lately I haven't had that kind of time. So I generally break down listening to albums into several sessions over a couple of days...
none .... In fact i choose something in between the most often ...i choose between 3 and 6 tracks by album that i program... naturally i choose the best tracks... in classic great albums it's often 5 or 6 or even all the album... in other good bands like... Bad Company...Nazareth...Pretty Things...etc... they're never perfect so i choose 3 or 4 tracks... it's just logical
I find that illogical, because you arent experianceing what the artiest meant for the whole album. They (usually) have it arranged in a fashion in which it conveys the idea the best or the theme.... But thats if you want to listen it for its "art" not for entertainmeant.... Sorry for the crapy spelling, its late at night...
