Hi, everyone. I'm new to this group. I thought I'd start out by asking people what their favorite book so far this summer is. That way, I'll get a lot of great ideas for August reads. So, I'll start the process. I recently finished a new novel called "Beneath a Marble Sky". Has anyone else read this? It's an amazing, amazing book. It's a work of historical fiction and retells the story behind the creation of the Taj Mahal. This is not only the best book I've read this summer, but this year. In fact, it's one of my all-time favorite reads. This novel is a love story at its core, but it's also a book that makes your heart beat faster. It's full of intrigue, villians, etc. The story is told by the daughter of the emperor who had the Taj Mahal built in his wife's (her mother's memory). Beneath a Marble Sky reminded me of Memoirs of a Geisha. I think that Beneath a Marble Sky is much more of a page-turner, though. I read it over the weekend, and stayed up long after my boyfriend had fallen asleep both nights. I'm involved in the movie business, and that's how I heard about this novel -- they're making into a film. And it should be a great one. OK, that's my recommendation! Thanks, in advance, for yours! - Izzy
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a cracking read. I don't often sit down and read a book in a couple of days but that's what happened here! It's often very funny and very very stange at the same time.
my best read this summer is Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts his about his life story, a junkie and criminal who escaped from Australian prison and landed in Bombay, spends time in the slums as a doc and as works for the Mafia..went to war in Afghanistan and all, pretty intreresting check out the website www.shantaram.com

my best summer read has been Slaughterhouse-five by Kurt Vonnegut, he has a really awesome style of writing, easy to read and very insightful
I discovered the magic of Vonnegut this summer and read 7 or so of his books. I cannot truly choose a favourite of them, but my summer was defenatly influenced by him.
