I blow dry my dreads about once a week when I shower. Does anyone else? Is it good, bad or neither good nor bad for dreads?

i dont think its bad at all haha but i just let it air dry. I mean what harm could warm air do to your dreads? haha i dont think its bad at all for them. I will tho if im in a rush and i dont want my hair to be dripping. maybe then if i blowdry my hair, i can take showers before school.... nah then i have to get up earlier haha

I don't think it's bad for your dreads. If anything I would think the air would help them to knot a bit more. I do it sometimes, when I'm in the mood. But usually I just let them air dry.

    *hugs*

My hair sucks when it's wet, and it stays wet for ages. So I blow dry.

hair dryers are bad for hair becaue it causes breakage and dryness... makes it un healthy. but i guess it all depends on how much you tend for your dreads. i do nothing to them, not even blow dry. when i wash them i occasionally use a natural soap but aside from that.

i totally blow mine (@ least partially) dry. my dreads are too thick & dense not to. if i don't use a hair dryer, then they stay wet for a couple of days, and then they start to smell kind of musty & funky...you know kinda what i mean? when i compare how often i was my hair & blowdry it now to the time before i had dreadlocks, it doesn't worry me at all. i had to blow dry my hair b/c it was so long and if i didn't brush & blow it dry to help smooth & straighten it a little bit, it would just tangle up & start to dread up anyway. drying my hair 3 times a month won't do serious damage...i'd much rather have slighty dried out hair than moldy dreads! sorry im rambling here... :)

i dont think i´ve ever blow-dryed my dreads before. i would imagine that it would dry them out and cause breakage, too. think about blow drying the same hair for 5, 6, 7, 10 years.

after i wash mine, i ring them out a few times by squeezing them while i´m still in the shower. then i´ll get done, dry off my body, squeeze them again (individually, starting from the top and working down) to get more water out, then i rub a towel all over my head and "bang" each dread into the towel hanging by it. actually, i hit the dread with the towel acting as a barrier, using both hands: one supports it, the other wacks the shit out of it. that really gets a lot of the water out. then i squeeze them again with the towel so it can soak up the excess.

after that i´ll wrap them up for a few minutes while i put in my contacts, etc. after that, i´ll pretty much repeat what i just did - squeezing and hitting them around until i think they´re pretty much free of most of the water. then for the next couple of hours, i try to have a towel near by to squeeze the tips free of more water.

if i wash my hair no later than 2pm, they´re usually pretty dry by the time i go to sleep. and i have kinda-thick dreads, so it really just depends on how you dry them.

i was worndering about this my dreads are new and i made them through backcombing so there pretty fragile and i dont want to be to rough and basicly tear them apart i have some none residue shampoo but i want to know the best way to wash my hair so i dont end up without dreads at the end of it. i was thinking of basicly working it in gently then ringing it out and going outside to let it dry in the sun (but knowing weather here ill just sit inside).

also i know people say u do wash your dreadlocks but doesnt hair just like naturally clean itself if u leave it for long enough (probably a myth) and doesnt the oil production adjust depending on how frequently u wash anyway?
or could i not just spray it with sea salt regurely or something? say if i didnt wash my hair what would the oil build up do?

I usually blowdry mine to the point where they're not dripping water all over the place, then I just do whatever.

when my dreadies were new, i felt like blow drying them after getting them wet helped tighten them up. once they were good and knotted up though, i just let them air dry.

    lol Thats great...
Today, in the morning it was raining, and i couldnt find my umbrella, so i had to tought it out and walk to school with my not so good rain proof sweater (its a knitted type :p). Anywho i came to school and i was wet, and i didnt feel like to be wet for the whole day. So i went to the washroom and just sat under the hand dryer and just dryed myself that way....

Yeah, when I wash my hair (once a week) I absolutely blow dry. It makes sure that there isn't any excess water in my hair. I also don't use the highest, hottest setting, but a mild, warmer air. Cuts the drying by half, and doesn't damage my hair significantly.

it's too humid here in the warm months to not blowdry dreads. They get dank and stinky if allowed to air dry (and they won't ever get all the way dry without some help anyway) kinda like when you forget to put your clothes in the dryer and they sit in the washing machine overnight. gross
