my friend and I live in FL, and we want to move out to California. we're ready for a big change, and we thought moving across the country would do it. we're hoping to find a cool little beach town somewhat close to LA.

    anybody have any suggestions?

I live about 2-3 hours south of LA in carlsbad about 2 mins away is encinitas. By the beach in encinitas is awesome theres alot of coolo shops and restraunts and the beach is beutiful its not far from town but it seems like it. Its a great place to live and i plan on moving there once i move out. i know its not close to la but its a really cool place.

San Clemente. Smack dab between LA and San Diego. Lovely there and a nice little town.

shysodapop, you simply musn't move to SoCal! The SF bay area is so much cooler! I beg you to reconsider. We need more cool folks like you up here in the Bay!

ok, after seeing all these replies I have a few questions.

    1. Laguna seems to be BEAUTIFUL, but expensive. is there affordable housing in Laguna? (considering we'd be working at restaurant-type places)

    2. tell me more about San Clemente and Venice (jobs, bud, friendly people?)

    3. why the Bay area over SoCal?

I really need your help, this is a HUGE decision to be making...

    thank you all so much!

Venice is much more in the heart of LA. Eclectic people there. I would think you could find something affordable there, but you are closer to the gangy part of the area. San Clemente is a more affordable Laguna, because it is so far out from LA. Apartments there are relatively affordable there. (Which is why I lived there and around there.) It's a pretty small town. I think the cost of living in the Bay area is higher, but I not sure, just something I heard. BUT, I think the Bay area is full of cool people, so I wouldn't count it out. Hopes this helps and WELCOME to the west coast!!!

Oh, and moving and finding new bud connections is always a Bitch, but I have done it numerous times and it always works out. In CA you can find cheap Mex, but not up here. Some of the times I've moved, I have maintained my old connections for awhile through the delivery services until I found something local.

I hear San Diego is pretty cool. What does everybody think about that? About how big is San Diego?

Think of it as one big city from Mission Beach(below S.D.)all the way up to Ventura.Think middle coast,Carmel,Big Sur,Morro Bay.It's all expensive living, especially with restaurant jobs.Go to Tahoe, live in the campgrounds. There's a lot of them there and it's much cheaper then rent.Get there in March or April for the best job ops.

You could live in Humbolt Country! It's where all the legal outdo' growers grow. A while ago my friend got some Humbolt bud that almost knocked me out.
