I don't know if this is actually my favourite film but has anyone else seen 'The Bad Lieutenant'? Harvey Keital's performance is off the chart. If you ever want to see a performance of a man on the edge, check it out.
Where did you remember that one? Well done, annaf. I remember when I went to see it in the Swiss Cottage Odeon when I lived in London. I was the only one in the cinema. This is one of those totally dark films, no special effects, no clever lines, no escapism and most of all no compromise. If you don't like conventional films and you don't mind putting up with depressing themes then you really have to get hold of this movie. Harvey Keitel shows the strength, imagination and talent of what only a real actor can recreate. He puts all the lazy, spoiled and dumb Hollywood garbageglitter marionettes to shame by daring into territory they couldn't even dream of. It's no wonder a talented man like Tarantino was only too glad to work with him in so many of his movies. Great suggestion annaf! I think the forum will appreciate this movie.
annaf, It was a good movie and I agree Harvey Keitel gave a strong performance -- but the movie had no real message, and certainly no redeeming qualities. But he was as the title suggests -- a bad lieutenant Period ! Talis
I thought that in helping they young girl he was somehow redeeming himself and he is an angel compared to Vic Mackie in The Shield.
pabloman, And of course he also tried to save the hispanic Junkie at the end of the movie. The Shield is my second favorite show on tv, second only to 24 which leaves all others shows in the dust. h
not every book/movie/painting must have message. there are ambiental, state of mind etc. in your opinion, what is the message of 24? if we talking about that kieffer sutherland serie, that reminds me of mtv spot
zeljko-h, The message of 24 is delivered in the form of small packets of adrenaline pumping high-powered action, which satisfies every male urge short of sex with some hot babe h
that's obvious, i was only pointing that message is not always primary. btw i don't like the 24 because it's too much fragmented for my taste. i'm more like csi and nypd blue type
Great film, my favorite Keitel movie aside from "Mean Streets" and "Taxi Driver". He's arguably playing the biggest assholes character in the history of cinema in that one. That scene in which he forces those to girls to watch him jerking off is sick and hilarious.
