I personally don't see any jam band getting 'real big' in the near future. I saw TLG on St Patty's day and thought they were awesome. Great musicians and song writers, but so are a lot of bands out there. The days of stadium jam bands such as the Grateful Dead, Allman's and Phish are pretty much over. The closest thing today is Widespread Panic in terms of crowd draw and that's only regionally in the south. I think they could get 'kinda' big though, much like, SCI, Umphrey's and Moe has For the most part the jam scene has become much more organic and small venue oriented, which is representative of the people who dig this kind of music. I see it staying this way and as someone who doesn't enjoy seeing music anymore in indoor venues that hold more than a thousand people, I hope it indeed does stay this way. Tea Leaf is definitely fantastic though. Can't wait for the next Northeast run
im gonna have to agree with dhs.... there probably will never be any big stadium jambands anymore... but im not gonna complain.. i prefer small outdoor shows and hole in the wall bar shows
Yea I definatly see tea leaf green becomeing huge ( at least in the jamband cummunity) - along with Strangefolk, Perpetual Groove and Family Groove Company - http://www.familygrooveco.com/charmer/index.html - their new cd is great - and they send you a free live cd for just signing up for their maling list!
Red Rocks as headliner or at all? Yonder JUST played it for the first time at BSC. And these are hometown boys.
I agree too, i never said i didn't. When i said they will get big i ment as big as SCI, moe., and other modern jam bands.
Strangefolk? They kind of had their chance in the late 90's, but didn't really capitalize on it. They still draw a decent crowd in the Northeast, but considering Reid left the band four years ago and with them having to take a hiatus last year due to Trafton's cancer, they have a lot of ground to make up. I think Reid's new venture - Assembly of Dust has a far greater chance of getting to the next level outside of bars than does Strangefolk. Mark my words though, Ryan Mountbleau Band will be bigger than Tea Leaf and most other jambands out there today. His style has appeal towards mainstream listeners.
I first heard TLG on the Relix sampler CD and I was really impressed, as was my friends. I now seem to be d/l a few of their shows more than anyone else at the moment. I wish we had the same access to all this great music over here in the UK!!
i REALLY like perpetual groove... they are pretty damn fucking tight... same with tea leaf green.... i see tea leaf becomin big in the jam band scene real soon... like a year or two
yeah p groove is the shit. I'm really confused in the jamband world today. There's just so many of 'em I rarely tread outside of my favorites to listen to too. As a result I don't listen to TLG as much as I should. I still love 'em though.
I dont know- ive gotta say that every time i've seen TLG there has been a pretty large turn out and the whole crowd has been REALLY into the show. Even at some venues where ive never seen big crowds TLG draws one. I think theyve put on some of the best shows ive seen recently- in my area anyway. I've gotta say i can see them getting pretty big. Again, thats within the jam band/festie scene. Not mainstream pop culture big.
see the only time I saw them, on St Patty's day - there was maybe 50 people there. Granted the Stonechurch only holds about 150, but not too many folks showed up. I can't wait for their late night set at Vibes though this Friday.
i hear ya there... when i was at 10klf... half the bands there i've seen before... but i'm such big fans of them.. that i'd go see them instead of checking out someone i havent before... theres alot of bands that make it through where i live... so i get to see alot of new music all the time
