"and the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made and the sign flashed out its warning in the words it was forming and the sign said the words of the prophets are writtne on the subway walls and tenement halls and whispered in the sound of silence"
Well They'll stone ya when your tryin' to be so good They'll stone ya just like they said they would They'll stone ya when your tryin' to go home And They'll stone ya when you live all alone But I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned. - Bob Dylan, Rainy Day Woman 12 & 35
I'm a rolling stone all alone and lost for a life of sin i have paid the cost oh, when i walk by all the people say there goes another boy down the lost highway Hank Williams-Lost Highway
sympathy for the devil - the rolling stones Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste I've been around for a long long year stolen many man's soul and faith I was around when Jesus Christ had His moment of doubt and pain Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed His fate Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change Killed the Tzar and his ministers, Anastasia screamed in vain I rode a tank held a gen'rals rank when the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name. Oh yeah Ah what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Oh yeah I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for ten decades for the Gods they made I shouted out "Who killed the Kennedy's?" when after all it was you and me Let me please intruduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste And I lay traps for troubadors who get killed before they reach Bombay Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name. Oh yeah But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Oh yeah Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game Just as every cop is a criminal and all the sinners, Saints as heads is tails, just call me Lucifer 'cause I'm in need of some restraint So if you meet me, have some courtesy have some sympathy and some taste Use all your well learned politesse or I'll lay your soul to waste Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game how can you not love mick jagger!
Rain Like tin angels falling Down Like a mission and we're Halfway there From some old dried up Fried forgotten town Why Won't they let us be ourselves With our potential we Could toe the line And show the bastards up With our divine Light Seize All the records from the past Hold for ransom all the artifacts This ragged town protects Them to the last With lies See them running heading Homeward to Seattle Deem All the liars in your tribe To be the fires on the Western side Of some old front we call The war of art Rain Like tin angels falling Down Like a mission and we're Halfway there From some old dried up Fried forgotten town From some old dried up Fried forgotten town To some old dried up fried Forgotten Town
There are FAR too many to name, but the oneI most recently heard was the simple "I smiled sadly, for a love, I could not obey..." From Lady Stardust
With your feet on the air and your head on the ground try this trick and spin it, yeah your head'll collapse if there's nothing in it and you'll ask yourself Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind? from Where Is My Mind, Pixies --- And the sea isn't green And I love the queen and what exactly is a dream and what exactly is a joke? from Jugband Blues, Pink Floyd
Oh from the northwest corner of a brand new crecent moon Crickets and cicadas sing a rare and different tune. Terrapin Station in the shadow of the moon Terrapin Station and I know we'll be there soon. ______________________________ If I knew the way, I would take you home.
I'm with you there! Also love the song you picked, kick ass song, lyrics smarter than you'd expect. I love that part. Even when I was little, didn't know what I was listening to, but thought it was beautiful. Good choice. I hate to choose because there is so many I can't recall, but the only song that comes to mind is Pink Floyd's "Eclipse" at the end of the dark side of the moon album.... "... and all that is now, and all that is gone, and all that's to come, and everything under the sun is in tune but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." But the meaning behind the words is not why I love it so much as how good it sounds. I would like to improve my own poetry so it can have the same... approchable beauty, so to speak. This isn't the best example, but it is all I can think of now, sorry.
White collar conservative flashin' down the street Pointin' their plastic finger at me, ha ! They're hopin' soon my kind will drop and die but uh I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, high ! Oww ! Don't nobody know what I'm talkin' about I've got my own life to live I'm the one that's gonna die when it's time for me to die So let me live my life the way I want to Yeah, sing on brother, play on drummer. --Jimi Hendrix "If 6 was 9"
"Strangers passing in the street by chance to seperate glances meet, and I am you and what I see is me"-Roger Waters "It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here. And I never knew the moon could be so big And I never knew the moon could be so blue And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes And brought me here instead dressed in red And I'm wondering who could be writing this song. I don't care if the sun don't shine And I don't care if nothing is mine And I don't care if I'm nervous with you I'll do my loving in the winter. And the sea isn't green And I love the Queen And what exactly is a dream And what exactly is a joke." -Syd Barrett
"I keep traveling around the bend There was no beginning, there is no end It wasn't born and never dies There are no edges, there is no sides Oh yeah, you just don't win It's so far out - the way out is in Bow to God and call him Sir But if you don't know where you're going Any road will take you there"- "Any Road"- George Harrison
Suppers Ready by Peter Gabriel & Genesis Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off. Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes. As the sound of motor cars fades in the night time, I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right. ...And it's hello babe with your guardian eyes so blue Hey my baby don't you know our love is true. Coming closer with our eyes, a distance falls around our bodies. Out in the garden, the moon seems very bright, Six saintly shrouded men move across the lawn slowly. The seventh walks in front with a cross held high in hand. ...And it's hey babe your supper's waiting for you. Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true. I've been so far from here, Far from your warm arms. It's good to feel you again, It's been a long long time. Hasn't it? I know a farmer who looks after the farm. With water clear, he cares for all his harvest. I know a fireman who looks after the fire. You, can't you see he's fooled you all. Yes, he's here again, can't you see he's fooled you all. Share his peace, Sign the lease. He's a supersonic scientist, He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man. Look, look into my mouth he cries, And all the children lost down many paths, I bet my life you'll walk inside Hand in hand, gland in gland With a spoonful of miracle, He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man. We will rock you, rock you little snake, We will keep you snug and warm. Wearing feelings on our faces while our faces took a rest, We walked across the fields to see the children of the West, But we saw a host of dark skinned warriors standing still below the ground, Waiting for battle. The fight's begun, they've been released. Killing foe for peace...bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang... And they're giving me a wonderful potion, 'Cos I cannot contain my emotion. And even though I'm feeling good, Something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule. Today's a day to celebrate, the foe have met their fate. The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our warlord. Wandering through the chaos the battle has left, We climb up a mountain of human flesh, To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life. A young figure sits still by a pool, He's been stamped "Human Bacon" by some butchery tool. (He is you) Social Security took care of this lad. We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower. A flower? If you go down to Willow Farm, to look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies, like the focks on the rocks, and the musical box. Oh, there's Mum & Dad, and good and bad, and everyone's happy to be here. There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag, he used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag. The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick was an egg, the egg was a bird. (Fly away you sweet little thing, they're hard on your tail) Hadn't you heard? (They're going to change you into a human being!) Yes, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese, and wonderfully clean in the morning. We've got everything, we're growing everything, We've got some in We've got some out We've got some wild things floating about Everyone, we're changing everyone, you name them all, We've had them here, And the real stars are still to appear. ALL CHANGE! Feel your body melt; Mum to mud to mad to dad Dad diddley office, Dad diddley office, You're all full of ball. Dad to dam to dum to mum Mum diddley washing, Mum diddley washing, You're all full of ball. Let me hear you lies, we're living this up to the eyes. Ooee-ooee-ooee-oowaa Momma I want you now. And as you listen to my voice To look for hidden doors, tidy floors, more applause. You've been here all the time, Like it or not, like what you got, You're under the soil (the soil, the soil), Yes, deep in the soil (the soil, the soil, the soil!). So we'll end with a whistle and end with a bang and all of us fit in our places. With the guards of Magog, swarming around, The Pied Piper takes his children underground. Dragons coming out of the sea, Shimmering silver head of wisdom looking at me. He brings down the fire from the skies, You can tell he's doing well by the look in human eyes. Better not compromise. It won't be easy. 666 is no longer alone, He's getting out the marrow in your back bone, And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll, Gonna blow right down inside your soul. Pythagoras with the looking glass reflects the full moon, In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a brand new tune. And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue, Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true, I've been so far from here, Far from your loving arms, Now I'm back again, and babe it's gonna work out fine. Can't you feel our souls ignite Shedding ever changing colours, in the darkness of the fading night, Like the river joins the ocean, as the germ in a seed grows We have finally been freed to get back home. There's an angel standing in the sun, and he's crying with a loud voice, "This is the supper of the mighty one", Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Has returned to lead his children home, To take them to the new Jerusalem. ----- It's not my alltime favorite (my alltime favorites are zappa lyrics & Ani Di Francos "Self Evident" & "To The Teeth") but it's a piece a like very much. Sometimes I think it is even more better than the whole libretto for "The Lamb".
Laquer Head- Primus Sometimes bored and sometimes lonely Pimple faced and rather homely He wasn't much for socializin' The TV kept a mesmerizin' In one ear and out the other Picked up a trick from his older brother Got him a can of sniffin' sauce Pinned his mind up on a cross Lacquer head knows but one desire Lacquer head sets his skull on fire Lacquer head knows no in betweens Huffin' on bags of gasoline Sniffin' paint since the seventh grade She was high on gin and gatorade On turpentine she lost her luck Fell in front of a speeding pick-up truck He was a boy of soft demeanor And he loved his carburetor cleaner The vapor made a sweet aroma He sniffed himself into a coma Lacquer head feeds his one desire Lacquer head sets his brain on fire Lacquer head knows no in betweens Huffin' on bags of gasoline Keep on sniffin' till yer brain goes pop
"and you're consuming me violently and your reverence shamelessly tempting me who sent this maniac? 'cause i've never had this taste in the past"
