For about the last week my areolas have been sore & have lumps under them. Monday as I was getting into bed I brushed my arm against me right one & it hurt like heck. As I said they are both hard like maybe an overgrown pimple or something. I decided to give the right one a few squeezes to see what happened. A clear liquid came out that has no smell & out of curiosity I tasted it & it didn't have much of a taste. Kind of salty/tangy but not much else. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I have an appointment with a Dr. Monday but I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about what this might be.
the bumps are normal. they are called Montgomery Tubercules (or Glands) and they produce the natural oil that prevents your nipples from drying out and getting chapped. Leave them alone. Nipple pain could be hormonal from your monthly cycle or pregnancy or just about anything else that affects your hormones, really. It could be that your bras don't fit properly, that you are sensitive to the material in them or your clothes, the laundry detergent, or the soap or shampoo or lotion you use. It could be yeast, even.
I went today for my appointment. My normal Dr. was out but her Hubbie who is also a Dr. that works @ the clinic looked "my girls" over. He said that he wasn't sure what they are doing but maybe there is something clogged. He ordered a test & refered me to a breast specialist. They scheduled me another appointment with the breast people. Thanks for the advice though.
I hope things turn out ok. My grandma had a blocked something a few years back (calcium buildup clogged stuff up) and she had to have surgery for it I think. Not a high risk of bad things happening, but it still sucked to deal with.
Mongomery glands can get infected. Usually an oral antibiotic will clear it up. (Dicloxicillin or Cloxiciliian seem best, more commonly used antibxes like Amoxilcillin have been overused and most staph and strep are resistant to this.) Also, in a womyn who is not pregnant, usually any discharge from the breasts (unless of course she is nursing or withing a few years after weaning) a mamogram will probably be done. Just to be safe. Snow, are you through menstruating and done with menopause? I am guessing that this is most likely not a pregnancy issue. Good luck. My guess would be a Montgomery infection, but maybe get that mammo, just in case.
Maggie, you're right. This couldn't in any way be a pregnancy issue. I'm going in for a Mammogram tomorrow & a follow up visit with the breast clinic 31 July. The next day, 1 August I see my regular Dr. too. I had that set up a bit ago & got worked in yesterday because of this issue. The Dr. That I saw yesterday ordered a test for prolactin level. I have to fast for that one so couldn't do it yet but since I'm going there tomorrow anyhow; I'm going to get it done then. I'll let y'all know how things turn out. Thaqwnk you for all the suppport & advice, sisters.
OK so I promised that I would tell 'all how this turned out. After all was done & tested. it was determined that it's related to the HRT that I just started. I really wonder why they didn't think that it was the cause... Anyhow, I have started to express at least once a day & they don't hurt as much. I kind of think that the pain was from a build up of the fluid.
