    you guys are silly!

    the question was

    "what is the...well...?"

so the answer must look something like this:

"the well... according to dictionary.com is on of the following:

A deep hole or shaft sunk into the earth to obtain water, oil, gas, or brine.

A container or reservoir for a liquid, such as ink.

A place where water issues from the earth; a spring or fountain.

    A mineral spring.

wells A watering place; a spa.

An abundant source: a well of information.

An open space extending vertically through the floors of a building, as for stairs or ventilation.

An enclosure in a ship's hold for the pumps.

A compartment or recessed area in a ship, used for stowage: an anchor well.

A part of a ship's weather deck enclosed between two watertight bulkheads.

A cistern with a perforated bottom in the hold of a fishing vessel for keeping fish alive.

An enclosed space for receiving and holding something, such as the wheels of an airplane when retracted.

The central space in a law court, directly in front of the judge's bench, where the counsel or solicitor sits.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen SWALLOW!

And I believe the question was not "What is the well?" but "What is the? well?"

    It's the definite article :)

nope, the Definite Article, both an excellent Izzard Video AND the word "the" :)

'Definate', by the way, is the cardinal sin.

    -1 doesn't have a square root...

I think they had to make an imaginary number up...it's just called E or something...

This always really confuses me...what the hell is an imaginary number...and why the hell can't anybody work out what the square root of -1 is??

The square root of 1 is one...there fore 1 divided by itself is 1...but -1 divided by itself is also 1...shouldn't it be -1? It somehow gets bigger and I don't know how :S Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh it's all too confusing for my tiny inferior brain
