Ok so I have grown dried and cured my weed, I got a prettty good harvest for my first time growing but I have one more problem. I am currently on probation and giving urine samples every week so I can't smoke my stuff. I smoked one hit already and it was great stuff, miles better than any weed I've bought in recent years, so I don't want to sell it off. The question is how long can weed be stored for and still be potent? Also what is the best way to store weed? I've heard it lasts the longest if you seal it in jars and keep it in the freezer, is that true? How long would it last like that? Thanks for the help, Stiney.

Don't freeze weed, that ruins it.
Once it's at the perfect moisture level, seal it up in an airtight container (Mason jars, Tupperware, etc.) and keep it in a cool dark place.

I can last a considerable amount of time. If I were you once it is ready to stay in the jars stash them away in a cool dark place like ranger said. Try to have them out of the was so you aren't disturbing them all the time.

If you store in a jar (like everyone would if they didn't have to hide it) then it will last a long time. Maybe double wrap it in plastic bags and THEN put a jar on it, just to ensure that it will be fresh come time to smoke it.

In just a bag i've kept weed for like half a year and it still smoked, albeit not as good as it did. It still worked.

Like has already been said; away from light and heat in an air tight container ( the less wasted space the better), if it's been dried and cured properly it will last a long time - at least a year or so. It really stores best like a fine wine; in a dark place at a moderately cool steady temperature!!!

Make sure that it was dry enough by opening the containers for a quick sniff test from time to time. Every few days at first, after a couple of weeks skip to once every week or ten days for a month or so. After that you might want to check it every month or two. Any hint of an ammonia smell is a sign of trouble.
Since you're not going to smoke it any time soon; you could take advantage of the time to give your weed a really l-o-n-g cure that would greatly improve the overall quality of the smoke and assure that there is no excess moisture.

Up until the 90's one of ther most sought-after cigars in the U.S. were pre-Castro cigars that were made in '59 or before.
Properly manicured, dried, cured and stored weed should last as long, since they're both plants.
If you store pot at precisely the ideal moisture content, the buds will continue to improve.
Awhile back I went into my barn to get a comforter which had been stored in a box full of odds n ends for over 2 years. I came across a tobacco humidor I hadn't seen for awhile and I opened it, assuming it was empty.
Instead, I found about a oz. of primo buds that had been curing for over 2 years. In a box surrounded by blankets it had been protected for being moved around or moisture loss and temp extremes.
I packed a bowl and took a hit and for a few seconds thought it must of lost a lot of potency, since the taste was so mild and then BAM. It hadn't lost any potency.
And it was smoooooth as silk, with a full rich aroma like excellent pipe tobacco.
My friend buys weed in bulk, whenever he can get a good deal, and he's got weed now that has been curing for almost 4 years. It's fantastic.
The weed I'm currently smoking is from last years outdoor grow. It's been curing since Oct. of last year, so almost a year.
After this years grow is harvested, manicured and slow-dried, it will go into the curing/storage jars until x-mas or when I run out of my current stock.

P.S. the best moisture content to pack weed away is like a fine humidor cigar. Most weed bought and sold is waaay too dry and storage will not improve it.

Does the THC not degredate over time.

    Plant cells contain moisture.
When moisture freezes it expands, fracturing the cell walls and making for crappy weed.
If you have bone-dry weed this might not happen, but bone-dry weed is already ruined.

I don't know how long THC lasts, but I have a friend who's been storing some of his weed for 5 years (under optimum conditions; he has a high-tech humidor at home) and it's as potent as when it went in.

Yeah, just realized that most of the time we've froze it, it was for hash..

Still, I remember the defrosted stuff to still work just fine, granted I don't hold high standards.

I once quit pot for 3 yrs and forgot I even had a QT in a pill jar in old parents house.

When they sold it and when I went to get a few things and I found it in my sealed up pill jar in a box I put in still. Maybe since it was a full one bud it lasted better?

Only time I had old weed other than a roach. weed dont last long here LOL

i've been freezing weed in mason jars for a long time and it works great. it's as potent as the day it came off the plant. granted i do vacuum seal them in the mason jars, but honestly those of you who say freezing weed is bad, that's crap. so long as the THC stays stable, that's all that matters. oxygen and light are the two things that will degrade THC the most, and the colder it is the better since the reactions slow considerably (by about 1/2 every 10 degrees Celcius...the Arrhenius equation for any chem majors out there).

^^ exactly...never had a problem freezing weed. Even when it was just double bagged. With a really small / tight fitting glass container you shouldn't need the freezer though.

I usually buy a lot of weed when I find good stuff and a good price. I've stored weed in mason jars for about 6months without a problem. It does dry out if open and close the jar every day to smoke, so I usually have a small smoking jar and big storage jar.

For longer term storage, I use a jar with a speial valve that sucks out the air kinda like a wine saver. its worked for over a year.

I find that freezing weed ruins the taste and smoke quality, but that the weed is just as strong. IMHO, freezing is not necesary if you store in good jars out of the light.

    Cheers
