LOL that's a great word for it Oh well to err is human. And you're still doing better than a lot of people.
Well done to have been a vegan. I always wanted to do it but find so difficult. Can you spare your opinions of your lifestyle during that period?
First of all, going vegan wasnt too hard at all, being born in a hindu family all my life I have lived in an atmosphere of vegetarianism. I am proud to say I have never tasted meat. Also ever since early childhood I have always loved raw fruit and consumed it in large amounts. When I turned vegan my mother went fruitarian. Both diets involved a large amount of raw vegggies, nuts and fruit. Fruit and nuts especially are very very expensive here so it became rather a lot to handle. It was difficult at first, I have a sweet tooth and almost all indian sweets involve dairy. But after the first month or so it became much easier as the mind and palate became accustomed to the new diet. Ive always been on the skinny side but my weight went up above 50 kg for the first time, making those who criticised my choice shuffle their feet and look silly. I was happy, strong, healthy and spiritually fit during that period. When I did give up the vegan way, it was for convinence, because my mother found the fuitarian diet too hard to manage with her daily schedule (fruitarian involves a LOT of eating time) and it was just hard for her to mannage the groceries and stuff when shed have to get a whole lot of things just for me. Also I decided I didnt really need to be vegan, my health has been just as good since I gave it up, because Im eating a lot more intelligently. No coffee, no tea. I do splurge on ice cream and sweets now and then and eat curds with my rice fairly regularly. No cheese and eggs only very rarely. Yes, I understand that there is the small matter of animal welfare, but really, just by going vegan I dont make any worthwhile impact, whereas by involving myself more in activism and spreading awareness we can create change. And locally, there have been several rewarding victories for us. I look forward to the return of the days when each family had cows, who they loved and treated with respect and fondness. Then there is nothing wrong with using dairy at all.
