hey fellas. like many of ur guys' plants, mine are flowering. i just wanted to make a quick post asking for any comments or thoughts on to what not to do in the next few weeks. im a first time grower, and never harvested, so any "dos" or, more importantly "donts", would be appreciated. i dont know if there are any, but any thing that will mess up my bud quality or quantity, or cause mold, etc. are welcomed. anything u guys have noticed from previous harvests that could benefit a harvest in any way are appreciated. thanks alot
Congradulations on your first buds! My best advice is to look back through the old threads. There are a lot of really good, detailed, tips on harvesting. Even if it takes a day or two, it will be time well spent - trust me! That being said, here are some guidelines. 1. Get some kind of a magnifying glass, so you can see the little resin glands on your buds - up close and personal. The resin droplets will change from clear, to milky, to amber, to dark. This indicates the degree of "ripeness" for that individual gland only. All the droplets on a single bud don't change color at the same time - when most of them are milky, some will still be clear and some will already be amber. Buds from different levels on the plant may also ripen at different times - you can harvest the buds individually when they are ripened to your idea of perfection. The different ripeness in the resin shows you the color change as the cannabinoids (THC, CBD, CBN, etc.) change thier ratios. Are you still with me, good!! So therefore; as the resin color changes, so does the kind of high you will get from that bud (laughing, paranoid, munchies, etc.). A common recommendation for beginners is to clip the bud when most droplets are milky (about 50%), with equal amounts of clear and amber droplets (about 25% each). BTW good luck finding that bud cuzz it ain't that precise!! Remember; it's not Rocket Science!! Experiment a little - have fun!!! Maybe take some at 50% clear and 50% milky and some others at 50% milky and 50% amber. Just be sure to lable 'em good and pay attention to the results, you will find what you're looking for - your favorite blend! The dark droplets, not amber but darker, indicate over ripe. 2. Be patient. I know, that's the hardest part at this stage - especially for a first timer. The learning experience of your first grow is more important than the product. Take some a little early, take some a little late; but don't sample it to death so there's nothing left. I hope this has been of some help to you. Good luck and happy hunting.
