i really wish we could get a hurricane up here in mass., but i guess i will just hope for some thunderstorms tomorrow so i don't have to work, even though i just sit on my ass and watch kids at a camp....i'd rather sleep at the camp...
I've been keeping my eye on http://www.hurricanetrack.com http://www.intellicast.com http://www.noaa.gov http://www.weatherunderground.com and http://www.weather.com Seems as if we'll just get a big flood up here. Nothing special. Isabel sure was a pain in the ass last year. They're saying it will be 120 mph and a cat. 3 just shortly before landfall... it's showing landfall predicted around Sarasota or Naples if I recall.
They think that Bonnie's gonna come around my place tomarrow night. We're not in a really bad flood zone or anything, so I think we'll be fine, but we still have to evacuate. I get to skip school tomarrow! *does happy dance*
Bonnie is done. Charley is now at 124 (reported from a cuban weather station) and is a little further west in the gulf, which means it will make landfall further north... so tampa or sarasota. And it will also develop more before it makes landfall.
O'RYAN..........now i am worried about you. once it passes and you get this, call me so i know you are well, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lots of love to you!
DHS should be alright. He said that he's a couple miles inland. That means that although he's directly in the path, he's likely not in an evacuation zone. Inland areas are "safe" if you are in a concrete reinforced structure. Mobile homes are not safe anywhere in the path. He's probably lost electricity or will shortly, but he's also probably doing just fine. It'll be after the storm that will be the problem. His area looks like it is getting hit hard, so he may not get power and other services back for sometime. But, all of us here have been watching this storm since Monday, so most of us have ample supplies and plenty of ammo on hand.
cheers dude i was looking at that storm on tv it didnt look nice especialy when theres 2 hurricanes close to each other.
Shelly (acetonephish) is at a shelter in Sarasota and she left her computer on with her AIM and yahoo IM on and her microphone on voice chat with it on the TV on the channel 13 news and the mike on the speaker. It seems as if her AIM and Yahoo are shut off... so power is definately down. They do purposely shut it down if it gets bad enough. I'm listening to 970 WLFA Tampa Bay Internet News Radio right now.... they're saying some houses are demolished and destroyed down there... they say trees are down, telephone poles are down, cars are smashed and they said tornados have come through... that's down in port charlotte... a few miles south. I'm going to go back to the weather channel. They say there's massive pine trees snapped like matchsticks. ~ George
I just got word from Shelly, she has come home and there is no damage there. It went further south. The main damage is in the port charlotte area and ft. myers only.
hit 30 miles south of me - really nothing big at all. feel bad for those folks down there though, mother nature gave them a woopin'. it was kinda of a bummer though, everyone was freakin' out, then we got some decent wind and rain for about four hours and that was it.
i was in pensacola for hurricane frederic. just a little guy of a storm where we were sitting. but it tore up a great big tree in our front yard and filled the hole with water. we were able to swim in our front yard and we thought it was SO COOL. during a lull we went out under the carports and had a barbeque, replete with watermelon seed spitting contest. then we went back inside and sat in the hallway while my dad held a candle and looked grim. it's one of my very first vivid memories, since we moved out of that housing when i was 4.
