Obviously, different methods of dreading produce different looks of the dreads. The dreads I like are like this:

The dreads I don't really like are like this:

As you can see, I am interested in even, straight dreads. Also, I like the end to be rounded, not pointy. The last picture doesn't even really look like he has dreads, it just looks like straight hair in rubber bands.

Anyways, I like the thick, even dreadlocks, not the crazy little ones.

Do you know of anything to acheive that effect? What should I do with my hair?

The first two look more natural, the second two, just look like someone did a treatment to their hair and I don't really like that look.

the first one is backcombed. i dont know much about african american hair, so i'm not sure about the second. that takes a lot of rolling and work.
the messier they are (like the ones you hate) = the less you did stuff.

    Ouch. Shrink your pics!

    Anyway...

I don't know if the blonde headed person used wax or not. My boyfriend has dreads very similar to those and he did not use wax. He ripped them apart to keep them smaller, but other than that, he didn't do all that much, except a little palm rolling when he was just sitting around. He's also had them for 5 years and didn't start looking like they do now until about three or four years. It takes a long time for those kinds of dreads to form and sometimes a lot of pain.

Perfect dreadlocks DO NOT exist! What you have to understand is dreadlocks are not supposed to be HIGH MAINTENANCE and aren't supposed to look perfect! Dreadlocks show the individuality of the person...and if everyone had the same "perfect" looking dreads, what kind of individuality does that show?

Good luck trying to create them...that's all I have to say.

i just scanned over my post and I never saw the word "perfect" anywhere. I just like different types more than others, that's all.

the african american people use wax all they have to do is use wax and twist cause their hair is highly kinky. my friends told me that when i was talking to them about dreadlocks and how i could get them. so cauccasian and african textures take different ways to make.

good luck getting them all even and everything. You will learn soon enough that nobodies dreads ever go exactly how they want, you will end up with dreads that are perfect for you and you only but you will go through all the phases first that it sounds like you'll hate; bumps, kinks, loops, matting together, seperating, different thicknesses and lengths. If you are going natural then have a good think about wether you can handle not having dreads that look like that for at least 1/2 years.

dreads are a lifestyle, not a hairstyle.
like life, there not perfect but you love them anyway...

you take each day as it comes and watch them mature.

sure. if there just a hairstyle for you, use wax cos you'll probably cut them off in 6months when there all loopy and your ends arnt blunt and that shit stinks of that vile wax smell.

I think they ARE perfect when they are naturals and unique. Mine are curvy and loopy, but they are MINE and are perfect for me...:)
