Morrison Hotel is my personal favorite, But The Soft Parade is a close second.
Are you just getting the studio albums, or are you gonna pick up like The Doors Live, and An American Prayer ? They are both really good, and I would recomend getting them.

i have the box set, comes with really cool mini LP cases for the cds, and comes with an info book...which i've yet to read. Theres 2 quite rare albums by the doors also (without Jim) called Other Voices and something else can't remember.

Yeah, I have the box set too, but I can't think of the other album either.
Another great album by the Doors is "Essental Rareties".
Different versions of songs, Live versions, and some of Morrisons weirdest shit, like "Mental Floss".

Think L.A woman must be my favourite album, followed closely by the essential rarities cd. I hear the soft parade being slagged off a lot but i think its good! There is a good forum about the doors called the lizard lounge

A lot of critics and people did'nt like the Soft Parade because most of the songs had the brass orcastra, like Tell All the People, Touch Me, etc. but I think it's all great. And the Soft Parade on the Essential Rarities CD is fuckin groovy, man!

I have 'Waiting For The Sun' 1968 original British vinyl 'Elektra' orange label L.P. with gatefold sleve. The record is scratched & the cover is a bit scruffy.I once owned: 'Strange Days' 1967 on Gold American Elektra label but sold it.
I have 'Strange Days','The Doors' & 'The Best Of....' on C.D.
I have 'The Doors Are Open' black & white video-tape Granada T.V. rockumentary from 1968.
Has anyone got the 'Light My Fire' single, 45 r.p.m. original 'Elektra' label from summer 1967?.I have never seen a copy, not even on e-bay.That must be a premium collector's item!.

I also have the box set mentioned earlier. Every cd is great but the rarities cd is amazing with the live "The End". An American Prayer is a good cd to hear some of Jim's poetry readings although it could have done without the backing music.

    Before his death:
    1967 The Doors
    1967 Strange Days
    1968 Waiting for the Sun
    1969 The Soft Parade
    1970 Morrison Hotel
    1970 Absolutely Live
    1971 L.A. Woman
    1970 13 ( a best of)

After his death there were many (over 40) best of or live albums or reissues put out. These are the best in my opinion:
1972 Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine
1985 The Best of the Doors
    1991 In Concert (Live)
    1996 Greatest Hits
    1997 Box Set
2001 The Very Best of the Doors
    2003 Legacy: The Absolute Best
