French singers

I would like to know a few names of contemporary French singers.

 

sorry I can't help. The only french singer I know is Sade. LOL

 

Check out Carla Bruni's album. Really good stuff. I know of a couple more, but I can't think of their names at the moment.

 

Robert Charlebois is pretty good. I don't know if he's considered contemporary

 

If you haven't heard any of them, I'd also suggest some of older 60's french pop stuff--Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin, France Gall, Bridgette Bardot, etc. It's really some of my favorite stuff.

Jane Birkin + Serge Ganisbourg doing "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus", or the newer version with Brian Molko and Asia Argento. Also, Protege Moi by Placebo is amazing.

 

There's also a song called "Vapeaur Mauve", which is basically a French version of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze", by a French Canadian band called The Haunted.

 

Why hasn't anybody said Feist yet!?

 

Contemporary? You mean right now? Check out Keren Ann and Raphael. Older Gainsbourg of course... Jacques Dutronc, Michel Polnareff, and Francoise Hardy are great, among others...
