    as anm artist I personally choose subject matter you can't take a photograph of,
    the spoon has redeeming qualities.

    yes i would usually agree, but recently i have done a few drawings of tangible things mostly just to give my technique a boost

    well me too, painting carrots on a row about now, but they have windows and doors and a castle wall about them, something you wouldn't take a picture of if you laid down in a garden. Most carrots I've seen growing aren't half outta the ground either;)
    Surrealism and fantasy is a personal choice, augment your technique all you want, all I was indicating was representation of real objects is something anyone can do with the push of a button on a camera. There are even computer programs to make pictures look like art and vice versa.
