hey yall, got a problem I haven'theard about b4. twords the base of some of the newer leaves are changing color. Here's some pictures, lemme know what you think it is. These are all different girls.
You got mites, and Check your ph. What kinda problems have you herd of? Heh heh.. Just bein a smartass. DONT EVER DO THIS AGAIN! That looks like stone cold Herbacide. Mercy on the Herbs and Peace to the Plants.
well I know about the mites, been tryin to get rid of them, I've been using Safer's 3 in 1. So this is what a PH problem would look like? I haven't checked the ph at all, mainly becuase I don't have a ph test kit. stone cold herbacide???
It can recover. I see mites and powderey mildew I think. The pot looks too wet actually. I bet your humidity is too high. Get Floramite if you can for the mites but the safers can control it. Consider a transplant into a lighter soil mix and then give it a lotta light, not a lotta feeds. I think it was burned too. Now you need to go to a place that sells tropical fish and get a cheap ph test kit for your water to see if your water is too alkaline. Neutral is ok or slightly acidic but not alkaline. BOG
Thanks Bushy, I think the humiity is at about 40% or so, temp usually ranges between 75 and 85 degrees. What PH is best? from what I have seen online the best PH is like 6.5 for best nute use, is this right? Do I just test the water, or is there a way to test the PH of the soil that they are in? Ok, I'm off to find a cheap PH tester.
Yes. Soma states that you should ph your already nuted water to approx 6.0 due to the fact that in soil over the day period the ph will work its way up to 7.0 Since the optimal range is 6.4-6.6 you should hit that right in the peak of the growing day. I never disagree with Master Soma. Have you seen his new book? I have one and just love it as much as mine or Jorge's! Get all three of our books man! BOG
ok, so I got a nice cheap PH test kit. Looks like the water in my watering can has a ph of about 8, which is bad. I tested the new batch that I had made and that has a ph of about 6.5 which is alot better. Should I lower the ph of the new batch using lemon juice down to about 6? Also, what do I do to lower the PH of the soil, will it come down on it's own or do I have to do something to it? I know it is prolly higher becuase someone had sugested I add some calcium to the girls, I sprinkled some granulated gypsum onto their soil. I have since found out that gypsum effects the ph, but I am still not sure exactly what it does to the ph of the soil. on a side note about ph, I thought I remembered acids being higher numbers, and the closer you got to 0 the more nutral it was. I guess it's been too many years, and too much fun since my last chemestry class.
oh, and the only difference I remember between the water in the watering can and the next batch is that the newer batch has been in a sealed up gallon jug and the water in the can has been open to the air. I made the next batch very shortly after making the one for the can. So what would cause such a difference in ph between the 2?
6.4 is such a beautyfull color. A beautyfull soft green on most color test charts. Who knows on the rest of it.
wHHEEE DOGGY!! I Laughed my ass off , Blessins on ya Brudda! I got Jorges book gott be 7 years ago and I still read from it all dogeared. I gotta do what Bushy says and get me his and Somas books!
Your water probably comes from the tap at 8 and when left awhile in open air might change some. 6.5 is plenty close enough and citric acid can be used which is what you are using really. I have used orange juice. PH is alkaline above 7.0 and acidic below that. Pot is an acid loving plant so keeping ph slightly on the acidic side promotes good nutrient uptake and hence good health and growth. ILOVEHOSE, I think you should even consider repurchasing the new version of Jorge's Book because it is so much better now. Much revision and updated make it really special now. Did you know that Jorge's book started small like mine and Soma's? I am honored to be considered one of their peers. We all love each other you know. BOG
So Bushy, I shouldn't really worry about what the soil ph is right now, just focus on getting the ph of the water right and the soil will adjust to it? Or do I have to do something special to the soil since it is showing issues?
