Pedophiles - Should We Know Where They Live?

We have the right to know for the sake of our babies...they gave up their right to privacy when they broke the law!

 

To me its a mute point. I believe that if you are convicted for molesting a kid say under 13 and you are over 18, it should be an automatic life sentence without parole. That easy.

 

And I don't believe trimming the branches is helping to cut to the root.

by the way the % of people in the US convicted of sex offenses who are later re-convicted of another sex offense is around 15%.

 

Well, I won't ask your sources, but that is still extremely low.

Especially when other crimes are MUCH higher (excluding murder).

It has actually been shown that reporting where sex offenders live did not increase or decrease their chances of being rearrested. It was 19% and 21%. It did however effect how quickly they were re-arrested with the regestered offenders being arrested again quicker. Make of that what you will.

It is still my opinion that the crime is reprehensible enough to just warrent life in prison. I do not feel that way about all violent felonies. Sometimes murder etc can be justified. In my opinion rape and molestation can never be justified, especially in the case of a young kid. These people who screw these kids up for life should never walk free again not because they might re-commit a crime but because they already committed an unforgivable crime against society. Unless of coarse there is evidence of a mistaken conviction.

 

I think they should be lined up an given the injection that is equal to chemical castration.

good opinions ..while the easiest thing for me say about the pedophiles and the other MEN using women/girls and the WOMEN using men/boys is it is that horrific of an act to use the worst punishment .
I have always been slow to and still really don,t have a solid one on the ease with wich we allow folks to track someone down .
I was going to link just what I found in 10 mins on google after I read this .
I had done this before in 4 mins I was in my neighborhood checking address,s and names and wether we think so or not we must actually be some pretty good folks or we would hear of a lot more of these folks homes and lives being destoyed.
most familys do not have to look far to find someone who is a victim or criminal.
a huge no.of folks i,ve met over the yrs in meetings and re habs are victims .
i,m real tired and rying to focus and if I could make a link at all it would be that asstated before about the percent of reoffenders and things like that is ok using one of the many websites I just found and used my neighborhood is clean BUT I all ready knew that not far away in this city is an area that contains many half way houses that have all different types of ex cons and othe roffenders in them some ar erehab houses for drunks, drugs and if I,m just looking the city over looking for a place to live I suddenly find there is a HUGE % of sex offenders (there is no distincion between pedophile) in one area WOW I won,t move there huh.
I usually think outside the box anyway BUT lets just assume I was some sicko who after having his wife raped was drunk and decided I wanted to shoot up a few places hmmm what did I say that took me 10 min .... well it is also a ten min drive to about 6 of these places hmmmm anybody heard of a "driveby" for less reasons with less knowledge I have and know a 17 yr. serving a hard 40 for it .
lots of these neo nazi types think this sort of behaviour is justified somehow it just does not seem right to give them the edge.
I have a 8yr old d.d. and would lose it if faced with the crime but I still think there is a point here.

I beg to differ with you Libertine. You think I have not had any dealings with these monsters. I have truened many of them in to the sherrifs dept over the yrs. I ran a batterd womens and childrens shelther for 7 yrs. I have seen the damage done and I will NEVER get it out of my head.

I don't know where you find your satistics at but you had better check again. 87% of child molesters are repete offenders!!! Why is there so much conflict here about this. I would hope that ALL people guard their kids now days. MY GOD do you know how many there are roaming free that have never even been caught.

I'm talking about pedophiles, the real crazys. Not the 18 yr old boy sleeping with his 17 yr old GF. Pedophiles get a couple of yrs,a mear slap on the hand, pot smokers sometime get 10 yrs. to life in prison.

Punishment to fit the crime went out the door. As far as reform/rehabilitation, I haven't seen much of it. The pedophiles that kill have even said they are in'curable and should be executed bc they CAN NOT stop themselves. And that's the truth of the matter.

Hey this is kind of more to do with the trouble of gossiping, but did you hear about that old guy who had just moved house and then this rumour started going around that he was a pedophile? Well all the moms went round his house and beat him to death.

So i guess if people knew where they lived, some parents may have the same anger as these women, even if they had been 'reformed'

But then again also, if people don't know where they live, more cases like the one i said could happen.

Just a question, how's it going in the States where people do know where they live? Are people generally happy with the way the system goes?

 

i think you have a rigth to know, even if there are a few cases of vigilanti. serving a few years in prison is in no way paying a debt for scrrewin around with a 9 year old.

It's not a question of not caring; I'm sure we all care a great deal and have thought long and hard about the subject, that's why we're contributing to this thread. To claim a monopoly on caring and to state that others who hold a different view do so because they don't care enough is really weak and lazy, and entirely mistaken.

We have an impartial judicial system making these decisions for a very good reason - it stops the abuses and mistakes which would inevitably follow from mob rule. The law may not be perfect, but it's on the right track as far as not letting passions dictate 'justice' and taking a cold hard sober look at all sides.

It also fundamentally comes down to whether you believe in punishment and vengeance for its own sake or if you think that crimes like this one are a result of serious psychological damage and that the offenders need to be treated. For those who are unreformable and pose an ongoing danger to society, clearly they should be held securely for the safety of others and their own. It comes down to a judgement call within certain parameters and guidelines and obviously the right decision is not made in all cases. But the issues need to be balanced, and we need to guard against making mistakes, grouping all who transgress to varying degrees into the same category, hysterically over-reacting and letting emotion cloud the issue.

Punishment for its own sake, retribution, vengeance, an eye for an eye - this adds another wrong to the situation and does not solve anything in a progressive and compassionate manner, as I think Ghandi said better than me. If people can be reformed and given another chance, they should.

It is apparent you hate pedophiles. Most people feel the same way you do. But, you just totally ignore reasonable arguments and run around making statements which you can't seem to back up with evidence.

It's called fear-mongering. It can be done with anything. Pedophilia is probably the most powerful tool you could use--even more so than murder or terrorism.

But, a crack in the foundation of justice and reason made for one group only leads to the possibility of further cracks for others. Sooner or later, it's not just pedophiles, but pornographers or film makers or anyone who disagrees.

And please stop the name-calling and insulting. No one here defends pedophilia. Especially not me. You have misconstrued my position. If a lawyer defends a murderer, does that mean he loves murder? No, of course not.
