Lately i've been getting bladder infections or UTI's after having sex. This never really happened much before, but now its been happening alot. Just wondering what causes this and how to pervent it from happening again?....
chronic bladder pain is something I know very well, unfortunately. You should make sure doc cultures your urine, to find out whether it's an infection. If no infection/bacteria is present, you are looking at something very different from a UTI. There are several things that I know of that can cause such pain, endometriosis, intersticial cystitis, adhesions, are the ones I am familiar with, but there are more. When I had a diaphragm, it caused chronic bladder infections. Your partner could be re-infecting you each time you have intercourse if he's not wearing condoms. It could be a sensitivity to spermicide or lube or something like that. Anyway, the point is to find out what is going on, and why, before you can start to do anything about it. First, though, you should drink lots more water and cranberry juice, and cut back or completely eliminate soda and coffee.
Make sure you urinate after sex as well... doesnt have to be three seconds after you two are done but within a few minutes.
This is exactly what I was going to say. I'm prone to UTIs and usually if I pee afterwards I'm fine. I think latex condoms make me prone to UTIs.
drink lots of water, cranberry juice, limit soft drinks if you drink them, and do pee after sex, it washes the bacteria that gets pushed into the urethra out.
I used to get very frequent UTIs, and they almost always showed up after sex. Be sure to drink your water. I try to drink at least 60 ounces of water a day. It can be a real chore. I also try to take two cranberry pills per day. People always recommend cranberry juice or pills because they cause the lining of your urethra to become slippery, which makes it harder for bacteria to attach and start an infection. If you like eating blueberries, they are also good in the same way cranberries are for preventing UTIs. Another thing to try is drinking a glass of water before and after sex and urinating before and after sex. Oh, and don't hold it (but you're a grownup - you know better than that!). If you can't get anything to work, I strongly recommend either seeing a urologist or your regular doctor. I finally went to see a urologist, and it was like a new world for me. He prescribed me an antibiotic pill to take after sex, and I never had another one all the way up until my husband died.
