Remember being in elementary/middle school or high school and having those spirit days where the student body would compete to see who could have more spirit? I remember themes like "tacky tourist day", where you wore Hawaiian shirts and carried disposable cameras around, "gothic day" which was usually around Halloween, and "greaser day", where we had to dress up like one of the characters from Grease. It was always funny to see one person go so over the top with their costume, and the rest of the class wouldn't even do anything.

We had "Gender Mix-Up" day once a few years ago. Let's just say they never did that one again...

well there weren't no "middle schools" where and when i lived. we hade grade school k-8, then four years of highschool. at any rate i think what you're talking about must have mostly started after my excape, i mean graduation.

i remember our highschool did host sadie hawkins dances and days. the only thing after school i ever went to that was part of school was for band practice and trips.

i remember the different high schools would have band competitions.
there were also a few field trips. waaaay tooo few.

and there were assemblies in the gym. like for donkey basketball.
and i think we may have had a few days where we were allowed to dress up different then usual. but not many. everyone academic and or hierarchal in those days were just absolutely paranoid about hippie anarchy. this was before we had the word hippie . or just about the time it was comming into existence. before that we were refered to as beatniks. well when i started high school it was kind of just about half way inbetween the beatnik and hippie eras. (62-66 were my high school years, and it was relatively rural where i was living and going to school. not agricultural but up in the forrested mountains)

The high school I graduated from was still doing this when I left. The only difference was that, if your class won, they got to leave for lunch 20 mins early every day for a week, so a lot of people competed. Much easier to smoke out in 45 minutes than in 20. It was however just a step away from mean. They would do a crazy sock day in february or november where you had to also wear shorts to show off your "crazy socks". Lots of blue legs that day..
