I have an idea for a new fashion thing and I want to know what you guys think. Well, if you have a pair of jeans that you don't want anymore or for some reason you can't wear them, it's really a waste to trow them out. So why not turn them into a shawl? It's real easy, just tie the legs around your neck and wear it like those country club people wear sweaters around their neck. I can't describe it very well, sorry. Not only does it look cool though, but it's environmentally friendly because then you aren't throwing them out, and you've found a fashionable way to recycle.

very groovy idea :) I knew a girl in highschool who wanted to be a designer after college, and what she did was collect old pairs of jeans from the rest of us, and cut out only the two 'butt' pockets, sewn them all together and made the most original skirt! It looked very cool!

Are you talking about just tying a pair of pants around your neck? Or do you mean that you would maybe cut them along the inside of the leg? Old jeans are so useful anyway...for patches and such...I can't see wasting them.

Personally I don't think tying a pair of jeans around my shoulders would be very comfy or warm...

I never throw out jeans anyway...most of my grocery bags are made from pant legs..:D I have made 2 skirts from jeans as well.

i cut the backs where the pockets are and use a little extra as a strap. I recycloe the bulk of jeans into patchwork "rugs" that I use as sitting mats when I am camping.

yea, I really didn't get that either, just having a pair of pants around your neck. Although there are many creative things you can make from a pair of jeans. Those purses and bags made from jeans w/ the legs cut off are kind of original as well, I think....

I've actually tried making a scarf out of denim scraps. it didn't work, and it didn't keep me warm.

Denim tends to get warm when it is warm and cold when it's cold. I would suggest using those jeans to make a blanket... but sew some knit wool or something of the sort on the inside. you could use different shades of denim to make it and it'd be fashionable too. couch covers as well as pillows or seat covers for your car are kool too.

Pant legs that are cut off and sewn shut are easy to make tool bags.

I'm in the process of making a rug....cutting the denim in strips and braiding it together, then sewing the braid in a spiral until it's the desired size.

Yea, I like to be alittle out of the ordinary with my style of dress, but, I wouldn't wear my old jeans around my neck either. I think I'd rather try some of the other ideas I seen here. But, everyone must sail their own ship!

if you cut off the legs, then cut them in half, then sew them into a big square, and cut a hole in the center, i think it would make a decent shawl. remember, a shawl is the easiest thing to make, its just a square with a hole in it. oh, and the jeans would have to be well worn and soft so it would drape nicly.
sounds pretty toasty and warm tho :)
