    Circumcision has two purposes:

    1. Sacrifice
the Jewish have used it for centuries as a sacrifice (ie acknowledging that it is a bad thing)

    2. Prevent masturbation
In the last 100 years, many American people have used it to prevent boys from masturbating. Today, we know that masturbation is not harmful, so circumcision no longer serves any practical purpose.

On the contrarty, it is detrimental to the boy:

    Detrimental effects of circumcision
    • It's extremely painful and often the pain is so intense that the baby won't always cry because it has gone into traumatic shock (babies experience more intense pain than adults, plus they are not anaesthetised like adults are).
    • It can cause behavioural, relationship and sleep changes in the baby.
    • It interferes with the natural development of the penis (when a boy is born, the foreskin is melded to the head of the penis and is not supposed to be fully retracted until he's many years older).
    • The surgery has a high risk rate of complication (some studies suggest the complication rate is as high as 38%)
    • It significantly reduces a man's sexual pleasure during sex (the average foreskin is 12 square inches of highly sensitive skin).
    • Also, foreskin has 12 important functions including keeping the penis protected, keeping it moist, keeping the penis coated in an antibacterial residue, making sexual intercourse easier, providing the additional skin needed for the erect penis to elongate properly, and providing sexual pleasure.
    • Most importantly, circumcision violates the human rights of the boy since he is too young to say no to the treatment.

    Myths
There are many myths about circumcision: The most popular is that it makes the penis cleaner; this is not true — although it does make it very slightly easier to wash. The foreskin is there to keep the bacteria out, not in! Another popular myth is that the foreskin is useless; as I have stated above the foreskin has twelve uses and they're all very important (what man wants most of his sexual pleasure taken away?). And as for the original myth about curing masturbation that caused circumcision to become popular 100 years ago — no, it doesn't "cure" masturbation; statistically, it actually makes a boy more likely to masturbate.

    Preventative cure
One alleged benefit of circumcision is that it reduces the risk of penile cancer, urinary tract infection, or a whole host of STDs. While SOME recent studies have shown a decreased risk of these things in a circumcised baby (note that these studies are recent, and mostly inconclusive), the conditions themselves are EXTREMELY rare, and following that logic you could save many more lives by removing the entire penis, the testacles, breasts, arms, legs, ears, etc. The scientific consensus is that these conditions are so rare that it is not acceptable to "cure" these conditions preventatively by removing part of the body. Besides which, most of these conditions (especially STDs) are developed much later in life, so there's no need to circumcise a man when he's a baby — let him decide as an adult if he wants to reduce his risk of rare conditions by chopping off the end of his cock and losing his sexual pleasure.

I don't like to rant, but what I'm saying HAS to be said. Please remember it and spread the truth instead of the lies! If you want more information, look on the American Medical Association, or go to http://www.circumcision.org/information.htm

I personally don't see the point in circumcision because all it does is take the fun out of masturbation, and it isn't worth the agony!!!

It bet it must hurt like mad, and what if you need a wee and your penis is all bandaged up!!???

Not cut, and very happy. They say you feel more during intercourse because your dick isn't always rubbing against your underwear, etc. - the foreskin offers the head protection.

come on, lad...you are making foolish talk! We natural men are laughing our arses off at how unknowledgeable that sounds. I hope you're beyond the beatings. Now THAT'S important to talk about. Meanwhile let's call a truce. Nothing much any of us can do about it anyhow.

There are heaps of studies into circumcised vs. uncircumcised... if circumcision really did deliver significant health benefits then there would be pro-circumcision campaigns all over the non-American west. As a non American from a first world country I can state categorically that these campaigns do not exist.

There is no valid reason for circumcision, except in rare medical circumstances. Parents (of either sex) should not be given the choice to circumcise their boys. A medical doctor is the only person who should be granted the power to decide for someone else. Once the boys are 18 then they should be able to voluntarily get this done as a type of cosmetic surgery (because without a medical reason that's all it is).

Anyone who thinks circumcised looks better is conditioned to think that... If it was normal for all young boys to be given genital piercings then everyone would be saying they preferred pierced to unpierced.

Wow guys ... I am against mutilating anyone, for the record. Before everyone jumps on me -- remember. I am not posting this to try to say circumcision is good, or that women have it rougher than men, or any of that rot which other people have (not always justifiably) been accused of doing on here. However, two things stood out for me above all else :

1.) FGM is often far more invasive and harmful than circumcision, plus it is generally done at an age when the girl can remember it. The procedure is often performed without anesthesia, and if the child does not bleed to death or die of infection at the time of operation, she has a great chance of doing so when her husband rips her open for sex.

2.) If mushroomherb should have "gotten over" being abused ... shouldn't y'all have gotten over being cut? You can't have it both ways.

Im getting cut monday I have got a short frenulum. I am nervous as fuck, but when it heals I cannot wait to have sex. I am a virgin because of my foreskin problem, if I tried having sex as is, I would hurt myself and make things worse.

I think circumcised is wrong as being a baby haveing no say. But am I ever glad it is still being used as medical issues.

Cut or uncut? Being cut increases sexual pleasure for both man and woman,as the coronal ridge of the glans moves back and forth in the vagina. Being cut also is more healthy - smegma trapped under an unwashed foreskin can smell, and infection can breed there, as well as the AIDS virus, as has been proved by several authoritative studies in Africa, where it has been shown that there is an eight times more likely chance of getting HIV if uncut. There also is a middle ground - a "loose" circumcision which leaves much of the foreskin intact, but exposes the glans when the penis is flaccid and erect. Many uncut men cannot fully retract their foreskins, which breeds infections and makes intercourse less sensual, as the glans is not exposed when the penis is erect. I am a lay sex therapist, and speak from experience here - Ihave lelped many young men and couples overcome their sexual problems. Cutted

I have no idea what sort of terrific fight has just broken out up there but...

I have a sort of 'theory' and it has to do with immasculation and (bare with me) sodomy.
    (brace yourselves)
I believe there is a real infatuation with circumcision in the USA and it is almost entirely based on very disturbing psychological issues of a Freudian size.

For starters, I suspect there is a type of Doctor that enjoys this.
Maybe they remember when they were 'different' and 'deformed' for being circumcised and now,
    now,
Now they will make it so that THEY are the majority and now lets see how you like it.
    ok.
Now I really am convinced there is a very real 'hatred' issue at play here for so many women.
Along the same lines where maybe they were feeling less important or hated their father (i dont know)
    but,
Now.. now they will control the penis and make all these nasty little boys into 'pwoper wittle mens'.
(just hang with me people.. im more painting a gyst of this than anything)
    Ok,
Now get ready because this next part is really going to get more amazing...

I am convinced that the infatuation so many American men have with 'anal sex' has a very real 'tie in' to this.
Now its THEIR turn to teach that woman a lesson and show her 'who is boss'.
    and after all,
'she' is the one that took away much of his surface sensations.
Now he needs more tight squeezing and now he is gonna 'dominate' her and she feel what its like.
    ok...
If that is not enough I suspect that the infatuation with women having huge surgically enhanced boobs (complete with their own scars) is in this.

I realise this sounds absolutely crazy to some of you right now but Im going to suggest something:
Think about what Im on about.
Just file it away in a corner somewhere as 'trivia'.
Now as you go through life just notice how many ways and places this crazy theory will actually 'fit'.
    You might be very surprised.

Just out of curiousity... any American or Canadian men or women in here think they know what Im getting at?

I've never done anal sex and I don't know many American men who have. Sounds like an Arab or gay thing. American doctors for many years have advocated circumcision, but in recent years some have questioned the need for it, and many boys remain uncut today in the U.S. But still about 2/3 are cut. In recent years, the figure in the U.S. for white males has been about 90%, and about 66% for black males and over 50% for Hispanics.

In my last post, I mentioned the African AIDS studies which showed an 8 times more likely incidence of HIV in uncut men. They are lining up in Africa to be cut, since some countries there have a 30% HIV infection rate, and condoms are not widely used. Another study in New Zealand, released only a few days ago, shows that "Circumcised males are less likely than their uncircumcised peers to acquire a sexually transmitted infection, the findings of a 25-year study suggest. According to the report in the November issue of Pediatrics, circumcision may reduce the risk of acquiring and spreading such infections by up to 50%, which suggests 'substantial benefits' from routine neonatal circumcision."

As I said, this study was not conducted in the U.S., but rather in New Zealand.

If I were a woman, I would think twice about having unprotected sex with an uncut man she did not know well who had not had a recent AIDS test.
