Thought I'd post here to see if anyone here has experienced this.
About 3 days ago, I started having this odd sharp pain on my lower left abdomen, right about where my ovary is. I know its not like a pulled muscle or anything like that because I know what that feels like, and this was totally different. It felt like there was pressure on my ovary, and I would have a consistent sharp pain any way I moved, or if I coughed or sneezed. I also had quite a bit of bloating over the last few days. This morning I woke up and thankfully the pain has subsided, and I've had some spotting today. I did some research online and according to my symptoms, it seems that it might just be some mid-cycle pain, or perhaps might be indicative of something more serious like an ovarian cyst. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this before? Based on the fact that the pain has subsided today and that I'm spotting, I'm hoping that it was just mid-cycle pain. But I've never experienced anything like this before, so I thought I'd ask others. I've made an appointment with my doctor for next week, just in case.

Also if anyone has had an ovarian cyst, is the pain consistent every day until you do something about it, or do you have pain some days and no pain some days?

    Thanks for the help!

Ovulation Pain: Also known as mittelschmertz, which means "middle pain" it refers to a slight pain that you may feel near your abdomen or ovary at the time of ovulation. It does not necessarily occur at the exact time of ovulation and not everyone feels ovulation. As such, ovulation pain is useful to cross-check other signs, but cannot be used to definitively confirm or pinpoint ovulation. Also, it is very difficult to know if the pain you feel in your abdomen mid-cycle is related in any way to ovulation or your fertility. Other pains are often mistaken for ovulation pain.

That's my guess at what it is, but if you're really in pain you should see a doc :)

an ultrasound will answer your questions. If your ovary is enlarged, that is likely from having one or more cysts (sometimes the cysts themselves don't show up on u/s). I've had ovarian cysts, and for me they are some of the most intense, stabbing sort of pain ever, double me over and make me cry kind of pain. When I have cysts, I can usually feel my affected ovary like a hard little golf ball under my skin. There are quite a few other things that cause ovarian pain, though, most of them cannot be diagnosed without surgery. I also feel when I ovulate, but I wouldn't call it painful.

I had an ovary that is "trapped" in scar tissue from a bout of appendicitis. Every other month when I ovulate on the right, I get pain like you describe. It gets worse with exercise and is bad during ovulation when the ovary swells. I would have any ovarian pain checked out to be sure. Ovarian cysts can get large and it may be mittleshmertz, but an ultrasoundmay pinpoint the cause.

Ovaries make a *cyst* or a *follicle* and the egg bursts out of the cyst/follicle BTW.

could be normal. Ovarian Cyst disease is usually a cyst that persists ) and remains through out the cycle, or is multiple cysts in various stages, or a gigantic cyst.

Adhesions, mittelschmertz and ovulation... all these can possibly be what you describe.

Is there any chance that you could be pregnant? I have herd women who have had tubal / ectopic pregnancies describe that type of pain....but tubals are not very common....so it is likley something else. I just thought I would offer that option.....you should get in for an exam & ultrasound right away. I could be dangerous.....such as with tubal pregnancies will kill a woman if they are not medically terminated.

man, I had such a painful ovarian cyst a while back. It felt like stabbing pain every time I urinated, coughed, sneezed...THen it just started to hurt all the time...Then it got so big my stomach got bigger looking and I had to have surgery...I think don't worry about it, just go talk to your docter and have it checked out to be safe, I ignored mine for a long long time until it got out of hand. Like it might be nothing, but if you have pain I htink it's just safest to get it checked out.

Yes, GET CHECKED. DONT WAIT. GET RECHECKED IF NEEDED.

It can be cyclical or constant, it pays no mind to a calendar or clock.

I started out like that and now Im having a full on HYSTERECTOMY in DECEMBER. My first cyst they did an US for was 5 years ago. This time it didnt just disolve.

The pain that started it is from a cyst on my right ovary. I also have polycystic ovary syndrome. BUT, after an ultrasound they sent me in to a diff. DR for a laproscopy and in that found much bigger, badder monsters (endometriosis, severe adhesions grabbing onto everything including my bladder and bowel, ovarian cyst and a very large fibroid on the back of my uterus) BUT NO CANCER, yet.

Oh, and dont let any DR tell you that you cant possably know just where your ovary or uterus is. Its in you, you feel it, and if its a persistent problem like mine, you get to "know" it.

You caught me while Im "high up on my soap-box."
I dont want others to go through what I have and other women in my family have.

So, in conclusion, TO ALL YOU GIRLS.... IF IT DOESNT FEEL "NORMAL or RIGHT" GET IT CHECKED OUT!!!! AND DONT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!
