You can get a signed FIRST edition of the book; " LSD: MY Problem Child", by Dr. Albert Hofmann at http://www.lsdmyproblemchild.com

795 usd, not bad considering I have seen them on Alibris and Amazon for over a grand. Assuming they still have some left...

Excellent book. Signed by Hofmann himself first edition would be a heirloom to treasure for generations. Already as the first edition these are over 25 years old, unlike any future reprints. Thought I would give a heads up! :)

LOL, yeah right. These are the hard back 1st editions, over 26 years old!
Signed by Huxley books easily fetch 3-4 thousand and up. Hofmann signed lithographs regurarly go for 3-6 thousand dollars.

Just the book unsigned being a 1st edition is worth a few hundred. The signature easily puts the value close to a thousand or more. Not a reprint or text off some site, those are for those that want to read it. A 1st edition, especially a rare signed one, is an heirloom.

Hofmann signs very little items and has recently turned 100 years of age. Albert Hofmann's book; "LSD My Problem Child" is a rare find. Even later editions have sold for a few hundred. A first edition is almost unheard of, a signed one, and in excellent condition like these, are a true treaure.

If you had a bible that old, it would be priceless. And you wouldn't pay that much? Silly rabbit.

1st editions, especially signed ones, will do nothing but increase in value.
"Eragon", said to be the next Harry Potter, when signed and a 1st edition now sells for 10-12 grand at rare book dealers. The movie comes out in december and the book will most likely increase in value again. Two years ago you could buy one for 400 dollars. A 1st edition and signed Harry Potter sells for 20-40 grand now, etc.

This is one of those deals you will kick yourself later about not getting. For example I was offered an orignial John Lennon signed art piece for a few hundred 20 years ago. I turned it down and today that same piece recently sold for 48 thousand. Real rare artifacts such as these always increase in value.

    my 2cc :)

Why would you buy a 800 doller book when you can go on the internet and read it for free, or go to you liberay... Your insane if you think you really need a signed book.

I think your missing the point, a signed first edition of a book is a collectors item. Albert Hoffman is 100 years old, he will be dead soon and obviously once he is the book will increase in value. Maybe not by too much initially but things like this only ever go up in value. If you were to buy it and hold onto it for 20 years it could be worth 10 or 20 times its value, probably more depending on how many coppies there are in circulation. Or you could hold on to it and pass it on to your children and in 75 years time it could be only one of a hndfull for sale and they could sell it for a fortune.

You are absolutely right Stiney. Also those above who say just read it online are right too. If you want to read it, don't abuse a first edition. There are only 600 or less of these signed in existance. They will increase in value if kept well.

    A definite keepsake.

    Thanks!

Absolultey 2cesarewild, those Harry Potter books would make a large down payment on a house! Just think of those who bought them when they worth less than a thousand. Now that is a nice return!

Signed 1st editions when bought at the right time; like when supply is running out, author is elderly, the books are already over 20 years old, prominent author, and/or other things like that can be an amazing find . The cool thing is these Hofmann books fit ALL the criteria for an amazing increase in value.

I bought an Eragon signed 1st edition, a self published book before Knopf got to it. I paid less than 400.00 only last year. I saw one for sale the other day, at worse condition than mine, at alibris.com for over 12 grand! Might be a car for Christmas as the movie Eragon comes out then and the book will surely increase again.:)

These kinds of things are TRUE collectibles unlike Mcdonaldland toys, faux china elvis plates, franklin mint crap, and other such stuff. Signed 1st edition books are like having a numbered print signed by Picasso or someother artist. They will only increase in value.

Thanks for the conversation! I enjoy this kind of stuff and the return can be great. :)

haha my dad is really into this kind of stuff, buying old beatles stuff mainly. he buys the craziest shit, lunchboxes and bobble head dolls and wierd magazines. it makes sense though, cause you can make a ton of money doing it, you just gotta be smart about it. you gotta spend money to make money, i guess is the idea. after kicking yourself in the ass when you sell some early edition video game or something or trade it in and then its going for thousands twenty or thirty years later... someones gotta be makin the money off of it. its a pretty wierd market though, my dad said, guess it's basically just a bunch of people putting personal value on certain items (bedsheets, books, bobble heads, records) as opposed to setting production values or even sane values (a book for like 25 grand is unbelievable logically).

lol ive been blathering because im stoned, but i read Eragon and really didn't think it was THAT amazing, i mean i thought the 'original, real language' idea was pretty fuckin cool (i think that was that book), but really the story seemed like nothing too crazily new in terms of fantasy novels... maybe im wrong

The only problem with buying things like this is I'm never sure if they are genuine or not, I mean, through the people I know, I've had the oppertunity to buy things like this before, including a Rubens painting but I was always afraid of getting ripped off and given a counterfit or a forged signiture, so always passed up the oppertunity. I mean why would whoever is selling those coppies of Hoffmans book be selling them if they were geuine, surely it would make more sense to wait ten years.

    Good question Stiney.

These books were obtained from a mutual friends of Hofmann's, absolutely genuine. They are being sold because we need the money! :D

Definitely they will be worth more in ten years as you said. There will be plenty of people who will pass up and later regret purchasing them.

These things are easy to authenticate if needed. A professional appraiser can do so for around 20 dollars.

Wanted to give a bump. If I don't make it to the forum feel free to email me with any questions about this offerring. Life has gotten rather busy and I barely get beyond emails and business. Remember these are the signed 26 year old 1st editions of " LSD My Problem Child" by Albert Hofmann, not some later reprint. These stored away copies were thought to be sold individually, but a single collector bought them and stored them safely away, until now.

Check us out in this month's (august,2006) Psychedelic issue of Heads magazine!

Now 26 years later, when copies are selling for 850-1200 at rare book dealers these last 100 of ours is being sold in celeberation of Albert's 100th birthday.
Given the age of the book and excellent condition they will surely increase in value and are a true heirloom.

Feel free to give us a call at the phone number on the website, or drop us an email for any questions you may have.

Thanks ahead for allowing me to make this offerring here.

    http://www.lsdmyproblemchild.com
    http://www.thealberhofmanncollection.com

Very soon the site will also have blotter art, signed posters, drug antiques from the psychedelic era, and other items for sale. In addition will be current articles, free download books, videos, etc. Very soon.....in progress now. :)

    Thanks again!
