In the near future do you think that there will ever be a movie where a guy/girl kicks complete ass and happens to be gay? I think a lesbian action star has actually occured before, but that is because guys like to objectify woman and when it is two it is even better! As for a gay guy I'm not so sure. I would love to be able to fund one though even if there arn't that many profits from it. *Should I put this in the movie thread? maybe*
Ever? That's a long time. I suspect that it's quite possible that at least one male action star might be gay in real life but not playing a gay character. A movie with gay content has a tough time of it right now. Brokeback Mountain made a lot of people uncomfortable even though a lot of other people loved it. It's going to take some brave actors and directors to get a picture made with a gay action star.
Hmm... well the only problem as of late is the fact that the general population doesn't want gay characters, they want the flamboyantly gay over-the-top no-doubt gay characters.... and these, well they're generaly considered funny... actually this genration tends to find odd people funny... Willy Wonka, Jack Sparow, The crazy girl who wanted to kill that bird in Failure to Launch... thier very popular, which is... well overall good, as you start to get more people exposed to people outside the social norm, allowing others to fill up locations near there as well.... but the character of a gay action film made for the general public would be horribly steryotypical, definatly dress in drag every episode or two, flirt with every guy, it'd be like James Bond, but everyone's drunk.... and James is cuter and likes guys.... anyway, maybe one day it may happen... and not be too bad... but until then, at least we have shows like will and grace, or Queer Eye to keep us... mildly entertained, if not slightly offended.
Has anyone ever heard of Weekly World News? It's one of those tabloid type things, but they tell silly stories like "Man Chips Tooth on Marble Cake" (the cake had marbles in it), or "Vegan Vampires Attack Trees in Central Park". They have a segment called Miss Adventure: America's Gayest Super Hero. It's a guy (that slightly resembles David Bowie) running around in make up and high heels while saving people and whatnot. This probably doesn't contribute to the thread, but that's what the topic made me think of.
