Had a psychology class almost 20 years ago, but still read stuff whenever I catch something I'm interested in. Probably a beeter reason for this thread was/is my own tendiences with OCD...which has been known to be wierd in the past.
I only asked because your first post seemed like it was straight from a text book (not that i have any problem with that )
I have OCD and it gets bad sometimes, but I've never been treated for it. I can't afford any sort of treatment, so I just pretty much work around it. I have a lot of what I like to call quirks... My closet is in a very specific arrangement that would take me ages to explain, but it makes life a lot easier for me because after I arranged it like that to begin with, I know exactly where everything is. I'm a hoarder...I keep so many ridiculous things I never need. I've been bad about that since I was little. I still have old schoolwork from 2nd grade, because I was sure it would come in handy one day. I have ridiculous organization on my computer, folders, sub-folders, sub-folders within those sub-folders...people don't like messing with my computer because it takes anyone but me ages to do anything. lol I think the worst part is my obsessive worrying. I am in every aspect of the word obsessive when it comes to worrying. If something bothers me, I can't focus on anything else, I'll start having a panic attack, I'll cry...it's no fun. I hate doing that, too, I lost so many boyfriends in the past because they couldn't handle it and felt like I was smothering them. Thank god I'm with a great guy who understands and is okay with it. Yeah...I'm afraid that because of it, I'm going to come on way too strongly for some people. And it drives me crazy at work because it's hard to always keep things clean. But when people find out I'm obsessive-compulisive, they weird out because they think I'm like the really bad cases that you always see on tv. I may have OCD, but I don't normally let it rule my life, so I guess I'm fine without medication or therapy of any sort.
I also forgot to mention I have post-its EVERYWHERE with stupid shit written on them... from "don't forget to buy a new toothbrush" to "remind mom of this" and writting down a problem with its solution on a piece of paper before I go to sleep (or I can't sleep)...
Hell Yeah! Just one of the many things I have LOL But for this one I gave that energy at 18 a place to live and became one of the top Project Mangers in the world of Telecommunications. If you give it a place to live and make it WORK FOR YOU. You are always a winner. I was able to handle over 1800 projects at a time. Why? I was so anal and neat and could do more then one thing at once. Most of us also have ADD along with this which just makes it an even more interesting ride in life. But after we learn to FOCUS we can produce that piece of Art or Music that will be here long after we are dead and gone. So make EVERY Negative into a Positive. It's how we also make medicines out of poisons. Peace The Wiz
I agree with this! Being so anal gives me exellent grades in school... well... I don't really study but I am so organized... and also I never have any surprises (or hardly ever) cause I plan everything ahead...
well in the family I babysit for...the grandmother has OCD & she is starting to drive me nuts. Everything (stuff in frig & in cupboards & knickknack cabinet)has to be in exact order and everything do to with the baby has to be done her way and she will explain why a hundred times. If she knows I'm getting ready to feed the baby, then she hurrys into room so that she can do it...not sure why I'm here.
Exactly! We have a Conscious and a Subconscious mind. The Subconscious is like our hard drive. So when we need information we were just neat in how we stored our files. LOL So when everyone is else is searching we already have it since we put it away right. LOL I worked as a Project manger for 32 years and honestly knew very little about the Nuts and Bolts of anything. I could just shoot from my hip and handle lot's stuff at once. Also dealing with people and herding them towards a common goal. So I made lot's money off of something many would look at as a disability. It's the same as saying your life is NO WHERE or NOW HERE. It's how you use the words.
Oh! I LOVE Post-It's. I'd have them everywhere...but I also have an obsession with not spending money. I used to have them everywhere when I had access to the high school's supply closet, though. I also wrote sticky notes reminding me to get more...sticky notes. Yep. I also LOVE to use them to mark places and make notes in books. God...now I want some sticky notes. Hmmm...
squawkers7, No but I've been the target of obsessive-compulsives on other message boards They follow you around on thread after thread because of some real or imagined insult. Hotwater
Me either, but OCD's one of those things that doesn't always have to have an "official" diagnosis. I'm sure it does to be treated, but it's a pretty broad disorder. I had an infectious disease doctor (my ex's dad) concur that I had it...does that count? Haha.
