I want to paint a picture over the lyrics to "Suicide is Painless" (it's the words to the theme song on M*A*S*H*). The song is so beautiful and dark, but I cannot think of what to paint. Any ideas?
I don't have a real suggestion, just a thought. With downer lyrics like those, you'll want a bit of contrast with what you paint...something happy or beautiful. Maybe a tropical sunset (added symbolism: sunset representing death), or whatever. It makes for a bit of irony. That's what I'd do, anyways.
suicide is painless............ how about a blissfully peaceful face staring up at the viewer, at first glance all is nice and te person looks so happy..... then u notice a tiny trickle of blood in the corner of the mouth. Or somebody mid freefall off a cliff? or how about an ironic image to go with the title, a picture full of pain, blood everywhere, and just a really sick image. Or playing on the selfishness of the comment and paint an image of a torn and painstricken family...for as painless as it may seem to the person commiting it, they leave behind them an eternity of people with their loved ones. just a few ideas
TrippinBTM may have a better suggestion than mine. I remember seeing a crime photograph taken in the late 1940's. A young woman, who was dressed in black, complete make up - thick red lips typical of the 1940's, pearls (must have been after 5pm), jumped out of a building landing on top of a car. The car's roof, being severly crumpled from the impact, cradled her body. She was definately dead, but her face looked beautiful in her eternal sleep. Her hands were delicate. Her fingers were long, and very white. In fact her face seems extremely pale. It always struck me odd, the violence of death juxtaposed with her peacefully appearing remains. Even so, TrippinBTM has a better idea. Using symbolism open to interpretation has a stronger impact. A more forceful impact which nothing is left to discuss or to the imagination.
i think when it comes to a topic this deep you must go inside of yourself + draw from experience or emotion or what not.
