Could someone please direct me to some good, quality sewing machines? What have you sewing mamas had luck with? I want to buy one that will last me a long time. I have been using my grandma's old old old Singer since the beginning of time, and it finally gave up on me about a week ago. It would cost more to repair than it is probably worth!! :p I would like something that is not too hard to operate because I'm not the best sewer in the world. But I know how to use a machine.

    Thanks so much! :)

I would try ebay or amazon. Most retail places that carry machines, like Sears, target and walmart will charge way more for the same machine. I Have all Janome machines and have used them for years after sewing on a 197? singer and then an 80's model singer. I just like the janome 4623 the best but it is a moderately advanced machine. You could get a much more basic machine for a great price.

That speaks volumes ^^^ Why not another Singer? My first Singer lasted 25 yrs. I now have a Brother & a Singer.

ew, dont buy a new singer, they suck massively. lots of plastic parts to break

my singer broke and i ended up buying some cheapy machine that was on sale with all metal innards. so far so good

ps, it might be worthwhile to repair the old singer, they just dont make 'em like that anymore.

depending on how old the Singer is, I'd probably prefer to get it repaired than to buy a new one. If it's from the 50's or 60's, you won't find a better machine anywhere. Have not heard anything good about the new Singer machines, especially not the inexpensive ones like they sell at the discount dept stores. I am so not happy with my 1973 model Singer, every time I fix one problem, I find more things that are wrong with it. Cheap plasticky crap, is what it is. The older machines were made to last forever.

I'm pretty sure that it is a late '50s model. For some reason, I'm having problems locating the make/model numbers and stuff. I was definately thinking Singer, just because that one held out for so long... and that seems to be the best bet! I'm gonna go sometime next week to try and get it repaired somewhere.... where CAN you get a machine repaired? I dont have the manual or anything... so I dont know if whoever would be able to do it..... so we'll see. If no repairs, I gotta get something, my fingers are itchin!!!!!!
