There are plenty of independent and public schools all over the country you know. And posh gits up north speak with a northern accent, it may not be as thick children of Barnsley ex-miners but it's still a northern accent. Although down south, regional accents tend to be less common among posh gits. Just because you go to a public school though, it doesn't mean that you speak with a posh accent. Plenty of public school pupils keep their regional accents. All sorts of different people have money you know.

You need to be careful with the term "the queen's english though" as the queen does not speak standard english - the Queen herself speaks an extremely exaggerated upper-class accent which is considered to be Archaic now and is dying out. Standard English is spoken by your average people in the home counties (although many do have a trace or more than just a trace of cockney in their accent). Colin Firth is I supose an example of standard English.

It's complicated - and best picked up by ear really, you just need to come over and hear it. But you can forget the idea of all people from the British isles speaking like either the Queen or like Hugh Grant for that matter.

If I had enough money for a flight of that distance I'd probably spend it on a new sax, myself, regardless of how much I wanted to go to the destination, although I'd be sure to save a bit and make a short trip to Portugal.

i love the uk...i grew up in cornwall which i adore..spent the last three years in croydon which i detest but it meant i was close to london which is a very beautiful city...i do have my moans about the uk but at this moment in my life i wouldnt choose to be anywhere else...i havent travlled a great deal but of the coutries i have visited and enjoyed, i have always been glad to come back to the uk in the end..i love flying back to englands and seeing the lush greenness of the land, it really is beautiful.

on another, christian note...i felt quite down earlier in the year when praying about my future and my calling..i went to a large conference for my family of churches and loads of people around me felt specific callings to countries, particluarly islamic countries where people are in dire need.i felt disheartened as i felt no calling abroad whatsoever, in fact i felt more than ever that god wanted me in the uk...but then he showed me that it isnt just abroad in islamic countries or third world countries that people are in need. the uk is full of desperate people in awful situations and for me to feel called to the united kingdom isnt a second rate calling but one which is very much on gods heart..

so yeh, i think il be stayin in this country for a while yet

    love luchi xxxx

In that case, tell me something.

Why should a billion mean 10^9?

I mean, it stems from the prefix bi meaning two and of course, million.

How do you apply the number 2 to a million and get 10^9? You can't do it.

    A billion is a million squared, it's 10^12.

    A trillion is a million cubed, so it's 10^18.
