Iron deficiency is common among veg*ns and so these people get a craving for chocolate. Most chocolate _ at least the downmarket range - is in the hands of big business. Could it be that chocolate companies form a cartel to promote vegetaianism in order to to sell more chocolate?

I'm a vegetarian and I have had a problem with my iron levels, however, I don't eat much chocolate... I actually don't really like the stuff.

I am far less worried about the chocolate companies than I am the pharmaceutical cartels who push their poison for ailments that don't even exist.

I think it's great. I wish I could be a vegetarian or vegan because it's so much healthier, but I like meat too much. It's one of my vices. I only buy organic at the store, even though it costs an arm and a leg. But I pretty much consume meat on a daily basis.

The only bad thing about vegetarianism is that it's easy to develop deficinces if you don't really keep track of what you're eating. Another thing is that tofu/soy is a staple food among many vegetarians, and in men it causes elevated estrogen levels. Today there are tons of processed foods on the shelves that are loaded with soy, among other things. Here is a great article concerning soy.

Like all things, there are pros and cons with vegetarianism, but I feel the pros far outweigh the cons. If everyone became a vegetarian, most of the ailments that afflict Americans in large numbers, such as obesity and diabetes, would be all but eliminated.

i'd hardly consider that a great article, the author is going to have to do a lot more than that to convince me of anything, im not sayind the FDA isnt bought and paid for but you can't make ten points from a single refrence each and say that all differing opinions comes from people who have been bribed.

as far as the chocolate thing is concerned, if there is any consipracy in the chocolate industry is the complete desolation of the coa coa producing nations economies that keep chocolate prices so artifically low, allowing candy bar companies to be a staple of american diet instead of a highly expense once and a while import.

Did you read everything on that page I provided? It was actually several articles by several authors. I assume that people are capable of doing their own research. The fact is, eating soy increases estrogen levels in males. This is well documented now.

Not to mention, most soy is now genetically modified.

i didnt eat meat for two weeks in feb 2006 and i became iron deficient. animals are meant to be loved then consumed but our population has more hate than love so when those people are filtered out through time the process will be loving.

Ahahahaha, Bilby you're wonderful. I'm starting to think there's a conspiracy behind the promotion of telephones, and the promotion of booze, and the promotion of exercise, and the promotion of employment. My god, some people just do things because they want to.
For those of you that found this a stupid conspiracy theory, maybe you missed The promotion of meat eating and dairy consumption.

OK so most posters seem to disagree with me but you might like to watch the Star Trek episode "The Man Trap" that shows how the body deprived of a nutrient can control the mind.

"Bilby you're wonderful. If the poor masses in this country all joined together and revolted they could overthrow the entire government...so the government keeps them drunk and on crack (yes if you didn't know already...the CIA brings in the drugs folks...) to stop them from dissenting.

i've heard from a lot of veg*ans, and some of 'them' do like chocolate, but not any more than non-veg*ans.

i'm vegan and i like some chocolate, but really a vegan diet gets me adjusted to more fresh alive foods, and chocolate is less appealing since i've been vegan.

and if somebody was iron deficient, i don't think they'd think of chocolate as being the first solution ?

here's some solid references on the health aspects of a plant-based diet

Unfortunately, too many people who follow a vegan/vegetarian diet either aren't well enough informed, or not prepared to follow the amount of "work" needed for good health. It's not as easy as many assume to have a nutritionally sound diet based upon vego principles. Non vegetarians have a hard enough time ensuring they follow a good, healthy eating plan. When your body is receiving all its required nutrients etc. it will not really crave anything. And I do think too often people adopt a vego diet for wrong reasons - how many vegos do you know that will happily wear a pair of leather shoes? Now, before you vegos' jump down my throat, I'd like to say I totally support this form of nutritional lifestyle, I do not however raise my kids as vegos'. The nutritional demands are just too strict for many adults' - let alone kids. With reference to the initial post in this thread, I will always be skeptical toward large "money focussed" companies - who knows what sort of underhanded tactics a company will use in order to gain dollars - just look at the pet food industry.
