i do not like the new beatle car because it is not what the old beatle was in any way. only the name and who makes it and the shape of the roof a little bit. i don't really like cars very much at all. unless they run on railroad tracks. little railroad tracks winding through the forrest and the garden instead of all this pavement everywhere.

the only place it makes sense to have to drive a long way on roads is way out in the boonies where people are too far appart for even little railroad tracks. and then i think something like a robotic lawnmower you can ride on would suffice.

i really think this making everything have to be about cars is insane and destructive, just like making everything have to be about money.

soon there will be no more oil. soon. but not soon enough.

I had an older Volkswagen Beetle once. I loved that car, wish I still had it. The new beetles are okay, but it just seems more logical to always have more love for the original. They have a new Volkswagen bus out to, but I've never seen anybody driving one.

that new van is siiiick. and not in a good way.

the old ones (vans and bugs) were waay hotter. and they always will be, in my opinion.

I like the old one better. It has much more personality, and it's original. The originals are always better than copies. The first car reminds me of my car, not because my car is that extreme (yet) but because it's all decorated and personalized the way mine is. I would freaking LOVE to have that car, though. It's snazzy.

I actually don't really like Bugs in general, when I'm driving, though. I practiced driving on my friend's Bug, and it was hard to get used to. It may have been because I was new to driving, though. I'll have to give it another shot someday, because I don't want to be prejudice against a car just because of one time driving it.

Mine is a 1973 red Super Beetle convertible. I'm still on the lookout for a 60s vintage VW van.

The original beatle had no power, the heater never worked as the vent doors would rust shut, you needed a heavy hammer and big ol adjustable wrench to tighten the generator belt (using shims I believe), you needed to stick your head out the window in the winter to see where you were going as the defroster never worked, the floor would rust out and take on water when it rained, which then froze when it got cold, and they had no trunk space. Also they used the air in the spare tire to pressurize the winshield washer.

But, they were easy on gas, had tons of traction due to the rear engine, had few moving parts and no extras to break, like power windows. Engine swaps and rebuilds were easy, manual transmissions always worked till the clutch gave out, they had bolt on fenders for easy fixing after kissing guard rails, were easy to customize, had lots of after market goodies, the bodies could be thrown away for instant dune buggies, and they were a blast to drive!

    Also cheap.

None of this is true of the "new" fake beatle.

Nothing like winding a beatle up to 75 mph down hill so you can make it up the other side without hitting first gear!
Wheeerrrreeeerrrrr toootle t-tootle toot all the way down; then wherrrrrrrrr....rrrr.rrrr.rr, downshift..whrr-rrr..downshift...whrrr, downshift, whr..r...rr.rr... chug... chuggga.. chug up the otherside!

Delightfull...you hadda know how ta drive.

LOL!!! That's hillarious Meagain (downshifting to first to make it up hills), I drive a '66 van, never made it all the way to first but have a few hills around here that require second gear.

The new Beetle is NOT a Beetle. The guts of the thing are totally different. The engine isn't even in the trunk!! The updated style is ugly IMO. It's no better than those nasty new PT Cruisers with the stick-on wood on the doors. LAME. I say bring back the old bug, AND the old woody. Stop screwing with the classics.
