lets say your handcuffed and a bomb is going to go off and you have to cut your hand off could you do it .

now dont talk about other methods of getting rid of bombs, lets just imagine there is no other way out, could you cut your hand off and if so why, and if not why not and is there anything you can do about it.

can you train yourself to do things like this, is it upbringing that allows people to do things like this if you look at the japanese they often cut their bowels out and then got beheaded .

you have suicide bombers , how is it that people are able to do this sort of thing and others seem to complain about minor discomfort

that's a stupid way to describe such a nobel act as seppuku!!!
They most stuck their own blade through their chest rather than be beheaded...
And they could do this cause they were fucking men and not afraid of pain!

Personally I'd rather cut my tummy open and kill myself than I'd do that to my hand, if my hand dies I die too... So I'd take up the bomb to my head and blow it off...
That being said I think you'd pass out before you could gnaw your wrist over with a knife...

seppuku ...is not pushing a dagger into your chest, its cutting your bowels out the hardest form being cutting them out and not having a second partially beheading you just sitting there in agony and bleeding to death .

generally you would agree a signal with your second the longer you held out the more honourable the death .

    ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seppuku

I think you would likely pass out while sawing hand off then come to and start again its been done and that seems to be what happens .

nice qoute from hagakure very apt by the way

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.

well would being dead be better than having one hand ?
and lets imagine that you had another reason for staying alive lets say saving some other people would that effect things for you .

could you cut your hand off then

That is the process, but actually Seppuku is a ritual suicide meant for regaining your honour.
Also, you forgot to mention that the women did not commit seppuku in this way, they simply stuck a katana through their Jugular.

As for the cutting off of the hand... fuck that, I'd rather be blown up and die immediately than die of the shock from removing my hand, unless I had a sword...

There are people who have taken a hand off and not died of shock ,I dont think you would need to die of shock ,lots of people had arms and legs taken off before anesthetics .

seppuku was not only for regaining honour if you look at the seppuku commited by the 46 ronin... But then that was ordered as an execution tho

I don't care what wikiedia says tho, seppuku was done with the selfdisembowment and katana through chest too...

im not sure but i think instinct plus adrenaline would kick in, i mean yeah it would hurt but all animals have an instinct to survive. i mean a mouse in a trap will chew off its foot to get away. i think in that situation we all have the capcity to do what it takes, no matter how horrific.

Jonny, I wonder if you could do it? I think you might make the first incision, then pass out at the sight of your own blood and get blown up whilst unconscious. At least you'd die in your sleep I suppose.

And how exactly do you train for something like this? It's not like people have a ready supply of spare hands to practice on first

suicide bombers tend to be trained most of their life so that their mentality is fairly different sometimes. more often than not they are overtly impassioned and fundamentalist thinkers. that being said they are still human beings with feelings and families and stuff-i find it hard to udnerstand why someone would want to blow themselves up....

would i cut off my hand? probably not. i can see myself more getting blown up than cutting off my hand....

I'm sure I read or heard of someone who did exactly that! They decided to dig into the elbow joint and once the bones were separated thay simply hacked through the flesh.
Yes, it was a rock climber, a rock fell on his arm and he was there for 3 days or so, just him and his little pen-knife! GAH!
